Okay, after seeing the number of plaudits Mr. Izzard got in the current "favorite stand up comedian" thread, I guess I'll bite the bullet and grab an Eddie Izzard DVD soon and learn his wily ways.

Looks like there are 4 DVDs of his performances: Circle, Definite Article, Dress to Kill, and Glorious. Which one(s) would Izzard fans recommend to this neophyte as an introduction?

Dressed to Kill is very good, but to be honest, they're all good- he's a funny guy!

Dressed to Kill is probably the best, but Circles has some great stuff (especially when he gets to those God and Jesus fellows). I thought Definite Article had a few more "Britishisms" than the others, so it would probably be better to watch that one later. You won't regret it.

I was introduce to Eddie with Definity Article and I've never looked back. I think he's ace.

I've only seen this one, and it's great. And it has an entire performance in French as a bonus!

I loved him in Mystery Men, too. Funny fucker, that one.

There's also a dvd of his 1994 (?) show Unrepeatable. If you've seen all the others it could be fun to watch, but I wouldn't recommend it as a first choice.

I've found that American audiences warm up to Dress to Kill quicker than most of his other shows. If after that you find that you like his comedy enough to appreciate it even when you can't see it, the Definite Article album is slightly better than the DVD version (my opinion), and the Unrepeatable DVD has some of my absolute favorite material of his (the album is the same show, which made it fantastic for me finally seeing the DVD for the first time). Circle and Glorious are good, but below par.

If you can, see him live. It's incredible watching him work.

Unrepeatable was amazing, I think he started to lose it a bit after that show. I don't know if it's available on DVD but LIve at The Ambassadors is also amazing.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I've had a $100 gift card for a DVD store burning a hole in my wallet for a while now, and I've been on a stand-up kick lately, so it looks like this novice will cut his teeth on Dress to Kill this weekend.
