Ooh! I must have grabbed it right before they took it off the server. Disney sent them a cease-and-desist. Sorry, all. Should be up later tonight.

Well.... I'm much more worried about Star Wars that this now. After seeing Zaphod and the rest in a bit more detail... me likey. Though some parts will obviously suck due to the obvious incongruities between the imagination and celluloid. Or some shit.

Yeah, two heads, three arms. That worry is laid to rest. Ford seems a little to helpful and cheery for my taste, but we'll see. I'm excited. biggrin

I'd rather he listen to the radio series than read the book.

Look, it's hard enough to convince people to read a 200 page book without trying to get them to listen to radio plays.

I think the radio series is far more engaging than are the books. If you listened to all 18 episodes (or just the 6 that are likely to make up the movie) in the car or during down time it'd be rather enjoyable. I remember listening to an episode every morning after I woke up but still wasn't out of bed; it was that half dreaming kind of state that made for excellent listening.

Did you do that so you didn't end a sentence in a preposition? If so, you get an "A" for effort, but the sentence would be better if you got rid of the "are" entirely. Goddamn, I'm a nerd. tongue

Anyway, I stand by my first point. Besides, ideally I think you should do both, but it's just easier to convince people to read the book than to go and buy a number of CDs. Unless you have a cool library that has the CDs or just aren't a visual learner and therefore like radio plays more than books, it requires more dedication to get a $30 series when you could get a cheap paper back for like $6 or for free at any library.

do you know some place to download them? i know the bbc had them up on their site but they took down the previous episode everytime the new one went up for download so that didn't help me when i heard about it halfway through.

What preposition? "Are" is a verb.

I'm sure all 18 episodes are available from Usenet or your P2P network of choice.

Subject/verb agreement. Is far more engaging than are the books. It's a clumsy sentence and probably incorrect, but that's what you get at 5 in the morning.

I'm really not into this kind of book, so remain confident that I will not ever read it. I love sci-fi movies, especially tongue-in-cheek or comedic ones, but can not stomach reading them. I have never made it through one.

This movie will be the extent of my experience with the story. Sorry.

wink

I really really recommend listening to the radio series. It's funny and entertaining, and I can't think of anything better to listen to on a drive to work or a road trip. Plus, it's 9 hours long (3 hours if you only listen to the first book). This allows a lot more exposition than a 2 hour movie can give.

And it's really funny. Really.

I will see if my P2P has them somewhere.

How many chapters are in each book... and/or all 3 total?

There are 18 episodes total. The original 6 episodes (made in 1979) make up the original story. The original first book is based on this series. The miniseries also composes this first series, and likely this is what the movie will be about as well.

They made another 6 episodes like a year later, that later became Restaurant at the End of the Universe. For about 25 years, these 12 episodes made up the entire radio series.

Douglas Adams wrote 3 more books in the trilogy (yes, a trilogy of 5 books) that became Life, The Universe and Everything, So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish, and Mostly Harmless.

Recently (like, a couple months back) they did a third radio series that ecompasses Life, The Universe and Everything with all the original cast members that were still alive. So now there are 18 episodes. They will make another series of 6 episodes for the later books, but that's not until later this year.

For reference, Fenchurch, Arthur's love interest in So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish is the basis for Fenchurch's name. The character also matches our Fenchurch to a T.
