A woman in Kentucky killed an attacker who may have intended to steal her unborn child. Sarah Brady, who is nine months pregnant, stabbed Catherine Smith in the chest and shoulder after recovering a knife from her in the midst of a struggle.

Ms. Smith had lured Brady to her home last week under the pretense of collecting baby gifts that were incorrectly delivered. Smith had registered at the same place as Brady under the name "Sarah Brody". Brady returned Thursday under the same circumstances, and Smith attacked her when she tried to leave.

Smith had told neighbors she was expecting, and a furnished and fully-stocked nursery was found at her home.

"That certainly is bizarre for someone who is not pregnant," Fort Mitchell Police Chief Steve Hensley said.

Brady suffered cuts, but her unborn child appears to be healthy, and doctors believe she will give birth soon. No charges will be filed, Hensley said.

Why weren't any charges filed??? Seems like I would be pressing charges if someone tried to cut my unborn baby RIGHT OUT OF ME! Goog gawd.

This is just a sad, sad story the whole way around. frown

According to an article I read, the woman who plotted this had tremendous voids of love for her entire life. (this is probably also in the one linked above, but I can't get to it)

It gets stranger and more sickening every day with all I've read about children and babies over the past year or so (stories of abuse, stunted growth due to starvation, attacks, murders, etc).

There are really no answers here. We can't have a psychological evaluation for everyone who wants to have a child, nor should we. Of course, these extreme cases are in the vast minority. When they're uncovered, though, I shudder to think of how many unknown cases there are. puke frown puke

I'm just guessing but probably because the offending party was dead….

That lady is hardcore, man. Nine months pregnant and unarmed she defended herself against a psycho bizzo with a knife? eeek

I hope the emotional turmoil doesn't diminish her experience as a mother.

wow, talk about protective instinct! i guess she did what she felt she had to.. to keep her and her unborn child from being harmed. it's too bad someone had to die, even if she was crazy!

It sounds like someone was gonna die no matter what. It would have killed the mother, and I'm guessing that she probably wasn't a qualified midwife/nurse/obgyn. Death is tragic, but one is better than two.

This makes me sad.

What kind of emotional turmoil do you have to be in, to be that far over the edge?

I'm happy for the mother, that she was able to save herself and her child. And I hope that the dead woman has found some sort of peace, where ever she is.

Send husband to collect misguided baby gifts from neighbor homes.

Good for her. Odds are she knew how to put a gals face in the gravel before getting preggers, but it is still good she was able to protect herself.

If anyone tried to pull anything on me when I was pregnant, I would've ripped them limb from limb. Never underestimate the power of the maternal instinct.

Can't you just pick them up in shopping carts at WalMart?

I don't think more weapons would have been a better solution to this particular situation.
