Following a relatively lighthearted stockholder meeting, Walt Disney Company CEO Micheal Eisner took potshots at Pixar Animation studios following Disney's announcement that they will create a specialized animation studio dedicated to creating sequels to popular Pixar/Disney movies, as reported on Defamer.

Eisner, less tactfully, later called the Disney-Pixar CGI pics "pretty pathetic," artistically speaking, compared with efforts like "Rapunzel."

Depending on whom you ask, Pixar needs Disney more -- or, Disney needs Pixar more.

In Pixar's quarterly conference call, Steve Jobs responded:

Jobs said sarcastically: "Our films don't stack up to 'Atlantis,' 'Emperor's New Groove' or 'Treasure Planet.' "

Even if Disney ends up making better computer animated movies than Pixar (which is highly unlikely), there's nothing more awesome than Steve Jobs when he's pissed off at someone.

"LLAMA FEET!!!!"

Emperor's New Groove was funny, but came and went. Look at the Disney Stores and catalog - Toy Story crap is everywhere.

Something tells me people at Universal are testing kneepads and working their jaw muscles for the negotiations with Pixar..

Emperor's New Groove was really funny, and Treasure Planet was not too bad, either.

But his point was that Pixar movies are better, and he's totally right.

Disney is going to make a non-pixar toy story and we can only hope that Hanks, Allen, or Ratzenberger have anything to do with it I will be severely disappointed.

Disney, what's the matter with you man? you used to be cool.

Disney hasn't done a quality animated movie in over a decade with the exception of lilo and stitch, which still couldn't hold a candle to pixar's worst, and they're shitting their pants because they know it.
Did anyone who saw the Incredibles see the preview for Chicken Little, or whatever it's called, Disney's non pixar cg movie, it looked beyond atrocious.
Disney's lost it, bad

I swear it looked like you said "disney is making a nonprofit toy story" and then i realized it wouldn't really make a difference what they called it, thats what it would be...

Christ. Well, I guess we can expect ANOTHER run of "Limited Edition, 10th or 15th or 20th anniversary, deluxe, masterpiece, golden or whatever else they call them, re-release versions of old movies like they usually do to drum up money during lapses between animated movies. Or worse yet....focus on "live action" films (like Inspector Gadget...and its sequel).

As a company, they seem to be creativly bankrupt. The fact that all they're doing now is making sequels of their GOOD movies should be a clue, even to them, that they're faltering. Big time. I mean, really. Mulan II? Yikes.

i'm so glad that pixar is leaving disney, because now they may actually be able to think for themselves. disney used to be great...50 years ago. ever since, they have been slipping hardcore. pretty soon, they are going to run out of ideas again, and they will have to start doing things like "bambi 2002", which was a hilARIOUS tv funhouse skit. basically, bambi fights terrorists, but that is only a small part of the actual movie. most of it is either bambi and thumper superimposed on tv shows, like the world series and a miss cleo ad, or sketch quality test animations. there is a disclaimer at the end saying "actual bambi content under 10 minutes". if you can, check it out. it just might be a glimpse at the future! ARRR!!!

PS-I will have a copy of the file uploaded tonight so you can see it!

Actually, Disney 2D classical animations are better than ever, technically speaking. The thing is.. Pixar movies are created, promoted and developed inside Pixar. Script Ideas can come from an animator, background artist etc Its THEIR talent. Disney has little creative say, besides vetoing, they are a distribution and investment partner. Disney will still krank out feature after feature of movies created with merchandising on their mind... and forgetting what has made Pixars´ movies awsome (and former Disneys' for that matter).. the acting, the illusion of life. Quickly! who would u most likely fall for.. Elastigirl or princess Fiona (they are both CGI, just one of them is "realest"). Seems to me Disney has to look into the past.. and relearn what they themselves discovered. Illusion of Life

I thought Disney had just closed the last of their traditional animation studios. Maybe I'm thinking of somebody else?

Nope, you're right - they've closed their 2D studios because they feel that "nobody is interested in 2D animation anymore". That's such utter bollocks it upsets me. Sure, the state-of-the-art animation helps Pixar, but it's the stories, the creative talent that makes them so successful. Pixar has some of the finest animation storywriters and scripters in Hollywood; Disney has some of the most uninspired. Disney needs to sack its writers, not its animation department (some of the most experienced and talented 2D animators out there).

Emperor's New Groove was fun and everything, but Disney haven't made a truly *great* film since The Lion King IMHO. Their previous 3D effort was Dinosaur, and that was shit (despite being looking great in a state-of-the-art way at the time).

Um... this is a random rant now so I'll stop.

What they did close was their paper pencil division, they use tablet monitors now, which is still hand drawn traditional 2d animation.

what's the best 2D animtion feature youve seen lately.. If Disney says its a defunct medium let's see if they are right.

The last best thing disney did was license Spirited Away for american release. It's not even really theirs, but just put dollars behind its american version. it's mostly 2d, has Ratzenberger. It was great. A lot of anime is still 2d with some cg help. Disney just has to figure out how to compete.
