NOT AS GOOD AS CELIBACY!!!!

*cries*

Okay, I shouldn't joke - this is a scary thing. Hell, HIV by itself is scary enough without some super version of it. Jesus. Be careful, people.

It probably would have helped if I'd named it something like

EVERYONE READ THIS OR YOU WILL DIE

But you'd think someone being excited about not getting laid would make everyone curious.

In college we used to refer to HIV as the high five. As in "wrap it up dude, she looks like she might give ya the high five."

The case was diagnosed in a New Yorker in his mid-40s who reported multiple male sex partners and unprotected anal sex -- often while using the drug crystal methamphetamine.

Certainly nobody ever deserves to get HIV, but it sounds like this guy pretty much went out looking for it. Sheesh.

Also, I wish this thread had a better title so more people would look at it. Maybe submit as a newswire article?

it's not terribly shocking though, i mean mutating is sort of what a virus does, and becoming resistant to meds is part of those mutations.

don't get me wrong it's horrible i'm not trying to be an asshole, i'm just saying from an immunological perspective it's not a big shock.

however i do agree that more people should be reading this thread and getting scared into carrying supply closets full of safer sex supplies everywhere they go.

It's a plague on those who participate in well-known high-risk behavior, yea. If you take responsibility and play safe you can reduce the risk.

Right, but it already was doing that, and we knew that. The whole thing with HIV is that it mutates constantly, so your body can't fight it, I believe. And they said that the regular strain was becoming resiliant to the cocktail or whatever it is that they're using these days. This isn't in line with any of that. It's a whole new thing. More reason to be really careful, if any more was needed.

i know, but in general a virus will mutate as it invades the hosts cells as a away of being able to continue to do so essentially, the whole thing with HIV is that as a retrovirus its particularly good at it, and the cells that it invades are serioulsy neccessary ones. and yes this is different, but i'm just saying that most people that work in HIV reserach won't be too shocked by it, which is why a lot of money has been diverted away from treatment and to preventative immunization (all major pharmoceutical companies aside here, whose money comes from 'treatment' based medications) because they just can't control it once it starts...

yeah calling it a plague is very iffy, very reminicent of those who called it the gay plague. risk can be reduced yes, but never completely illiminated
