Six hundred dollars.

That is the cost of throwing an Egg McMuffin at a McDonald's manager. Make that assaulting a McDonald's manager.

Scott Rodgers, 46, was convicted last Thursday of misdemeanor assault and battery for throwing an Egg McMuffin at the manager of the McDonalds through the drive-up window, when he found it had sausage on it, instead of ham. Rodgers, who was with his 6 year-old son at the time, had ordered 4 Egg McMuffins with ham at the drive-up window and returned when he found one with sausage.

An attorney for Rodgers said he did not throw the sandwich, he returned it very quickly.

But the county prosecutor claimed that the McDonalds manager was "picking egg out of her hair," from the quickly returned sandwich. Rodgers was also sentenced to three days in a work program and ordered to stay away from McDonalds.

I think they're being a little too gracious when they "egg." Perhaps "reconstituted soilent green" or "lamb's dust" would fit the description of what the manager picked out of her hair.

Still, busting rocks with the Hamburgler has got to suck.

Geez, people threw stuff at me when I worked at Burger King, and no charges were ever filed. Is this some sort of fast food double standard?

Dude, Burger King is asking for it with that pansy "Have it Your Way" crap. If I'm having it my way, there's egg sandwiches flying all over that motherfucker.

Jesus. I can't tell you how many times I've done this, and I've never been arrested for it. If the food sucks, and let's be real here, folks- it's McDonald's, it's GONNA suck- but if the food sucks, I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to throw it back at them as hard as I fucking can. Besides, what would you do if someone was trying to poison you? Politely ask for another one?

If someone threw shit at me while I was working, they would be lucky if I didn't break their nose, much less calmly call the cops.

When will you people realize that when we're at work, we're TRAPPED? Anything you do to us is worse because we can't leave, we can't get away from you.

In the war between food service personnel and asshole customers, the police are the last line of defense.

Great, teaching his kid to be a little shithead, too.

I think it's fucking horrible to throw shit/be a prick to anyone on the low rungs of the food service industry ladder. There's a little bit of room to do it if they're just being a complete asshole, or they very obviously adulterate the food, but otherwise it just bugs the hell out of me.

Seriously. When I worked at McD's, I got the occasional sandwich thrown at me. I was an eighteen-year-old manager trying to close the store by myself with all these whacked-out high school sophomores either hitting on me or trying to climb out the drive-thru window.

I cried. When that douchebag lady hit me in the chest with her $.99 Big and Tasty that HAD ONION WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN NO ONION, I went to the break room and broke down.

If you bought a network card from Circuit City and it didn't work, would you chuck it at the cashier when you returned it? (Please don't tell me if the answer is yes tongue) Courtesy? Respect? Not hard concepts, even when you're hot, cold, tired, stressed, or allergic to onions. frown

I have to toally fucking agree with this. As a corporate bitch for most of my college money-sucking years, I've experienced some of the rudest and lowest human behavior short of actual assault.

What people don't realize is that putting on a logo-embossed polo and hat doesn't make that person a direct avatar of the great capitalist spirit that is Said Company. Being rude to Random High School Kid at any kind of corporate wage-slave establishment accomplishes one thing... it ruins some poor kid's day. It doen't hurt The Man, and it doesn't perpetuate change, unless you count the fact that the kid is going to smoke twice as much on his smoke break that night, or possibly be rude to someone else later on that he normally would have been chill with - possibly a customer, but more than likely family, friends, his girl at home, whatever.

So while I will never, ever, ever understand the need for litigation in EVERY SINGLE awkward social situation in the Western world these days, I do applaud the McDonald's employee for standing up for himself as what he is: a human being who doesn't have to take shit from anybody. Work in food services for a year, and just LOOK at the kind of shit people will get into a yelling arguement over... "I asked for ten packets of mustard, not eight!!! You dumb little bastard, no wonder you work at _____!" "Does this look like extra sauce to you??? I don't care if it's what your boss says is the standard amount for 'extra sauce', I don't fucking like it!!!! " Take that every weekend for a year, and see if you can still count yourself among the type that might throw crappy McDonalds food at some poor random guy.

the end.

It reminds me of a time a few years back, where someone tried to hit a Pizza box out of my hands after giving me a bunch of shit about it taking too long. (20 minutes is pretty fucking fast for delivery actually...). He almost went from the top of the stairwell where we were standing, all the way to the bottom. Without using the stairs. I almost lost that job that day. So I have to agree with Thistle on this one too.

I was thankful that my manager was a good friend of mine, and that it never went higher up than him.

Though sometimes I think I should have dropped the guy over the rail as was intended.

I'm glad this McD's manager got something out of it. I'd bet that the satisfaction of winning the case is way better than the money which was awarded.

Serves them right. There is such a thing as politeness. There is such a double standard in service related occupations. If people come in and fuck shit up and throw things and yell, you pretty much either have to stand there and take it or get fired. No matter how much shit you take if you dish out ANY to customers that is pretty much it. I remember working at Pizza Hut and having someone (drunk) call in for a delivery 45 minutes after we closed and then cussing me out when I wouldn't make it and explained our closing time. I remained calm and polite despite being cussed at for maybe 10-20 minutes. And in the end she called up the next day to complain. People who don't have to deal with customers have no idea what picky, needy selfish pains in the ass people can be sometimes. Everyone should realize that there are real people working in places....not robots, or some shit. People have feelings and deserve to be treated decent even if things don't go perfectly or you are having problems at home or work and need someone to take it out on.

Please stop eating fast food, or any other restaurant food, if this is your attitude. If I don't like the way you pay me can I throw the money back in your face? Would throwing food at some poor defensless fast food worker make you feel big? If you think the food is poison, jesus, don't buy it. Don't throw it at someone.

I worked at KFC part-time for 4years while I was at 6th form and college and the amount of arsy people who came in and thought they were better than me and the rest of my work mates because we worked there. They could be really horrible even if you tried explained that you were only there to pay for your studies not because you couldn't get a job else where. People have no respect for people in the fast food/take away business, you're just a less being.

I now have 2 jobs and my evening one is as a waitress in a hotel, I thought for some reason that the waitress and waiters would get treated better but hell no, you are there to serve, smile and don't make jokes, the management don't give a cack if the guest are abusive because they have such a high staff turn over, if you don't like it leave and they could have replaced you with another sap the next day.

Slightly off at a tangent but I agree that people should stand up for their rights and their bosses should too.

It's fucking called justice. It's not the crime of the century, neither is $600 a Texas death sentence. But employees are real people and deserve no less respect than anyone else. Nobody's working in a fast food job for spiritual enlightenment...

Disrespect for a fellow human being because a fast food sandwich is wrong. I can't believe this guy has defenders!

It stuns me how people who are the first to stand up their own rights don't understand the difference between the real human being employee and the business they're pissed off at.

Frankly I think this is a positive story... in this era of mandatory minimums for victimless crimes, proportionality is a nice thing.

I suppose in the UK people are more civilised. And this sort of thing never would have happened. And if some yank came over there and threw an Egg McCrumpet through the window, there would be no penalty for it. And that makes it all better.

I mean, the UK has produced some seriously fucked up wankers, but I don't blame it on the country.

actually, I have had network cards thrown at me. If the box lands on flesh the right way it actually tickles.

Everyone should be required to work at least one yar in some kind of customer service face-to-face job. 6 years of retail and I'm lucky I still have hair left. Not to mention the idiot managers who populate these places now.
