A friend of mine could no longer keep her bunny so I decided to take him. She said he doesn't really have a name, which I think is a crime. All animals should have names! Unfortunatly, I have never had a bunny before and do not know what would be a good name. Any suggestions?

P.S.
My boyfriend was so mad when he found out I had taken in another animal. Oh well, he can get over it.

I don't know about a name, but I definitely think you should put a pancake on his head.

He really is cute...he is standing up in his cage right now. Neyrissa, if you want to give me rabbit advice, or anyone who has had rabbits before, that would be great. I have had rats, guinea pigs, dogs, cats, and lizards, but never rabbits. Oh, and Bunnicula totally has my vote right now! I forgot all about that book!!

Well, I have had a few small animals before, such as rats and guinea pigs, but is there anything rabbit specific I should know about? Any quirks or special needs?

Hmmm...he shouldn't be on kitty litter as he can eat it and it can compact his intestines...hmmm, no temperatures above 21 degrees C as he can get heat stroke very quickly. Have him vaccinated against Myxomatosis and Viral Haemmorhagic Disease (VHD) once a year, or more often if your vet thinks it's necessary. Get him neutered, if he's not already done...

Feed a good quality concentrated pellet food, but make sure the bulk of his diet is hay. He should always have tonnes of hay available to him, and it should always be fresh. Fresh hay is sweet smelling and not musty smelling and dusty. If you see any mould in your hay, chuck it straight away, as it will kill him. Don't just chuck the mouldy bit, chuck the whole bag/bale.

Veggies are also very important but if he's not used to them yet, introduce them slowly, a tiny piece of a different vegetable every day, and check to see he has no bad reactions like runny stools or gas.

Check out my site for more feeding advice!

I think he'd probably a Netherland Dwarf, or at least a cross of one, judging by the ears and they eyes. Make sure you never pick him up by the scruff of his neck as his eyes CAN actually pop out of his head!!! Always pick him up by scooping him up under his bottom and supporting his front end with your other hand. NEVER let a rabbit kick out and struggle as it can break it's back this way, especially a smaller bun such as Peter (I've named him that for now lol). NEVER pick him up by the ears. When you do hold him, give him a chance to hide his head in the crook of your arm.

Note, however, that most rabbits hate to be picked up, and you should avoid it at all costs. My buns hate me at the moment as I check their stitch site twice a day for healing, and do this by picking them up and turning them over. Most rabbits go into a "hypnotised" state when turned on their backs, but it's been determined that it ISN'T a blissful or peaceful state for them, as previously thought. It should be avoided.

I should also add that he needs a minimum of two hours to run around every day. His cage should be big enough to take three hops in (by law in the UK!), but ideally he should be out in a run or, if he's a housebunny like my girls, running around a room. The room MUST be bunny-proofed which means covering any wires with tubing, or tacking them up, beyond his reach (don't underestimate how far he can stretch, too!!), and any holes (like the back of the couch, etc) that you don't want him down, blocked up.
