Recently Melody from Suicide Girls had her dog Sidney diagnosed with Heartworm Disease a serious and potentially fatal disease in dogs if left untreated.

Although heartworms can be fatal and treatment for the disease involves risk, the condition is nearly always curable.

Unfortunately the treatment can be fairly expensive, and Melody's current financial situation makes it impossible for Sidney to get the treatment he needs.

After reading about it in her journal I decided to try to do something about it and came to the realization that if we here in the SG community could make even a small donation we could help her out and help save Sidney's life.

I contacted Melody, and she set up a special Paypal account and website. Please visit http://www.hellokaty.com/sidney/ for more details, or if you feel like helping out you can make a Paypal donation to scottra0@yahoo.com. (that's a zero)

I tried to donate a little bit, but it wouldn't accept my credit card, it said that number was on another account already. I'm sorry, I would have totally tried to help. I love dog and animals of all kind for that matter. Keep us updated on how much you need to raise!

So how much does treatment cost for this type of condition? Just so we have an idea what kind of goal there is. It might help put some perspective on the whole thing. I get paid later this week so i'll donate then smile

One of the websites I found said it costs between $500 - $600, but I don't know if that info is up to date or not. All the vet sites I looked at when I started this don't put their pricelist online.

I'd check around at the local pet stores (independent), dog parks, doggie day cares. If Austin is anything like the cities that I've lived in there's an informal network of dog people that will help you out. There's bound to be a low cost vet in town somewhere, and those people usually know where they are. Chack out Animal Trustees of Austin, give them a call, they have a spay/neuter and vaccination clinic and might be able to point you to a vet that can help you.

Good Luck and let us know how things work out. smile

Edited to add, just found this oganization: Texas Aid to Animals They're in Austin and it they offer low cost veterinary services.

Check out this site. It may not be what your looking for but I think it might be worth the time to look at it and consider your options. It's about natural heart worm treatment. Heart worm treatment
I will try to help finacially as soon as I get paid. I hope all goes well.
