For those who don't know, FTM is female to male transexual and MTF is male to female transsexual. I am a FTM and am just curious how everyone feels about the subject. AND NO I DON'T NEED A DATE. mostly I'm just really bored

pre op? post op? either?

Person would have to be pretty cool. But that's required of anyone I would date...

I am a little sketched out by the idea though. It's not the gender thing, so much as the trauma that a person who wants to change themselves that much could possibly indicate. But that's a little presumptious of me and I know it. I just prefer to avoid deep contact with unhappy people....

We used to go to Lone Pine all the time when I was a kid. It's gorgeous.

And, to answer the question...no.

Definitely not a FTM as I'm straight! MTF, maybe. Would depend on her personality and how female she was! ooo aaa

I guess... if the person is cool and everything works. I suppose the whole FTM switch is far less common though. How are you doing with that? It must have been a very long process for you.

Does that mean your a chick with a dick? I use to know these things but I forget. I'm not sure if that means a female that acts or lives as a guy. Or a female that actually had an operation. I don't think I would ever date a transexual, the manlyness is a bit of a turnoff. I think you will find most people here are very accepting to things like that. Welcome to the site.

thats an honest response but the FTM's I know, myself included, are not unhappy people. It's just a matter of being born the wrong gender. it makes life a bit rough but I wouldn't say I am unhappy about it. I am pre-op my self but the question was general.

it is indeed a long process, and I am just begining. FTM is not really less common just generally less recognised.

I am fascinated by gender. I am actually studying gender and applying to grad school in gender studies. I am fascinated by the whole production of gender and what it would be like to live as a male after living as a female for so long. I guess I am just interested in the whole social interaction of gender as a whole. I know this is different, but I am totally wanting to do a study of Transvestites. The whole topic is interesting. If you look in my pic folder, I have a kick ass pick of a transexual that I just find fascinating. When I posted it in my journal- the guys didn't know how to react.

It was my understanding that the actual surgery was less common than the MTF procedure. I can be wrong about this though.

You seem like you have a good head on your shoulders. I wish you all the happiness in the world, I can only imagine the rough road you face in this journey. I hope it works out well for you.

I'm sorry, I just always liked the way it sounded and I never have a reason to say it. I didn't know it bothered people, I won't say it again.

Goodluck on your operation.

I am very open-minded. The fact that I am bi and roleplay with different gender roles sometimes probably makes this question an easy one for me. It truly is about the person for me, not their gender or their equiptment. I would have no problem dating either FTM or MTF, in whatever state of transformation they happened to be in at the moment, as long as we clicked in all the right ways - emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

I also find gender facinating. I am happy being female, but I would love the power to change gender at will - mine and others. I think it would be very enlightening on many levels.

Welcome to SG! biggrin

Yeah, like I said, I know my thought was presumptious. smile I am working on that.

I most definitely befriend MTF's or FTM's who seem interesting and friendly. (I am a friendly RL acquaintance of three-- which is a lot for sheltered, redneckey Maine.)

One of my best friends is FTM. I first met him right when he started taking testosterone, so that was a little weird for me. I am (was) somewhat sheltered growing up in the deep south, so I wasn't use to being around people going through sex changes. At first I kept calling him a her, and I felt really bad about it because I always try to be at least polite to people. As the "T" took hold and I got to know him better, I didn't have any problems seeing him as a guy. I've had some really interesting conversations with him on the differences he sees between men and women because he's been both. Portland has a fairly large lesbian and FTM community so I've met lots of guys that I would never have guessed about if it wasn't pointed out to me.

So to answer your question: I don't know if I would date a MTF. If I didn't know, it wouldn't really matter. But if I did know I think it would matter to me, and I guess that's shallow but it's the truth. My friend still dates within the lesbian community, and I don't know if he's even dated a "straight" woman. We haven't really talked about that part, because I think it is a sore subject. I think I will, though.
