Another thing to ponder before denouncing Islam. While Sufis like Rumi were celebrating public displays of affection and ecstasy, most of Europe was just coming out of the dark ages, and still ruled by unwashed, illiterate sword-clanking boneheads.
How is that relevant. Christiian culture has moved on since 600 years, some muslims haven't

Ummmm.... the difference between George Bush and "unwashed, illiterate sword-clanking boneheads" is what exactly???
All cultures have their high points and low points, and stupid laws get written all the time. A female friend of mine who was in Pakistan with Oxfam, said that the social and community aspects of the culture were simply wonderful. It was neccessary to conform to a set of rules though which pretty much segregated the population into male, female and married. That is the difference between these "Arab" cultures and western cultures. They have arranged marriaged so they don't need all the carrying on that western culture takes for granted.

Maybe it really *IS* time for a holy war....righteous indignation and no quarter given against these religious assholes who only want to fuck EVERYONE'S freedom all over some imaginary friend in the sky.
I'm generally very libertarian in my viewpoints, but since September 11, my toleration of religion is practically nil.
They are the enemy of mankind.
Well in that case we have to kill all the christians, hindus, buddhists etc as well...
You can see where the problem lies.
Like it or lump it, religion is something we have to live with.
Personally, I find this no different to being unable to kiss your same sex partner in public in many places in America without being seriously hurt. Matthew Shepherd anyone?

Well sometimes "cultural" things are just an outrage to international law and common human decency and sense. For instance the bride killings, the honor killings, if a family member is raped then they get killed to avenge the family honor.. This is technically illegal in the Mideast and India but sociely accepts it and the perrp frequently is not punished by the courts..
Any spousal killing in western societies is no longer condoned nor tolerated by society or the courrts.. Before yo u mention OJ, well and OJ is an aberrration and does not happen but once in a blue moon.
