I can't wait for this movie to come out. I keep seeing previews for it and I love it more with each trailer! Keanu looks so yummy in a white shirt and black tie. And it looks really creepy too.

You do know it's based on a comic book, right? Unfortunately, the movie, from what I hear, has lost all the great aspects of the comic. First off, John Constantine is blond and British. His character was based on Sting and had an intricate mythos that was constructed from H.P. Lovecraft and religion, mixing in demonology and serial killers. It's creepy, dark stuff, with Constantine always getting the raw end of the deal and often suspected of being the perpetrator by the authorities. Somehow, I don't think this movie is going to be that gritty.

Hellz yeah. I usually hate seeing movies right when they come out because of all the damn wankers that do the yakkity yak yak thing. The number of douche bags seem to drop off after a couple weeks. This one however, I can't wait, it gives me a happy in my pants.

Yes, I knew it was a comic. And no I don't think it will do the comic justice. But I think it will still be worth seeing.

I too don't like going to see movies when they first come out, but with this one I don't think I will be able to wait any longer than I already have. smile

I'm SO fucking glad I've never read the comic book. Movies are always better when you minimize your expectations of what you think should happen.

I knew it was a comic from the get go. But I'm only mildly familiar with it, so I'm going to take the movie as it is and hope it doesn't straight up suck.

LMAO!!! If you really like the movie then there is a new fan site called hellwantshim.com. It has a couple new trailers that give a little detail into the movie. Otherwise it is a character based on HellBlazer comics and also appears in Swamp Thing. Totally different kinda of character but I am still looking forward to it.

we all know that keanu couldn't act his way out of a paper bag (btw, what kind of expression is that anyways?) but i like him nonetheless, and i think that this looks like it will be a good flick.

as for being disappointed with comic book movies after reading the comics that they are based on...i never read Hellboy, and i still thought that the movie was terrible. the only good thing about it was Hellboy himself. the action was horrible and slow, the plot was stupido, and it just seemed like everybody would just stand around and let monsters eat or hit them. it would've worked better as a comedy tongue

This movie looks good, and Bill and Ted rocked! Seriously! biggrin

I think people give Keanu a hard time, but for no real reason. Sure, he's not the most capable actor, not by a long shot. But he's still done some really good movies, like The Devils Advocate. I think every one should cut him some slack. But that's just my opinion. smile

The guy who actually made the comic book has either read the screenplay or saw an early version of the movie and withdrew all support for the venture. That's why they couldn't call it Hellblazer.

I have nothing against Keanu. I don't like how people give him a hard time.

However, also I'm a big fan of John Constantine.

The movie just appears to be Keanu kicking some demonic ass with a shotgun that looks like a crucifix.

It might turn out to be a good movie. But it's not John Constantine.

They should have just had the movie be about someone named John Carver and called it "Carver" and then I would have no problem with it.

Well, not quite. The author's approval means shit if they have the rights to it, so that doesn't really make sense. The reason, according to IMDB, that it's not called Hellblazer is because the name sounds too similar to Clive Barker's Hellraiser. Seems more likely. Also, Jamie Delano and Garth Ennis's names are still attached to the movie for writing the comic. The name conspicuously absent is Alan Moore, who created the character for Saga of the Swamp Thing.

Alan Moore has said that he doesn't like movies and doesn't want his work being adapted at all. He read the screenplay or something, I think, and asked that his name not be attached to it. Because he only created the character and never wrote anything that the movie is based on, I guess he got away with it. He wasn't so lucky with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and won't be with the upcoming filmed versions of Watchmen and V for Vendetta.

By the way, no one's going to listen to me, but I swear to God you should read the collected Saga of the Swamp Thing. It's fucking brilliant, and you get to see the introduction of John Constantine. And yes, he was in Sandman. I think towards the beginning, because Gaiman wound up moving Sandman away from the comic book universe and more towards literature and history. It worked much better that way.

Um...anyway, yeah, it may be an enjoyable movie in its own right, but I find it hard to be happy with what they've done to the character. The character in the comic is just so much cooler than the one that I saw in the previews. Making him an American is pretty not cool, but making him young and some gun-toting action hero just doesn't work at all. He mostly just stands around smoking cigarettes in the comic, so it's a pretty big adjustment if you're a comic fan.

God, I'm realizing what I'm writing and it occurs to me that I'm a giant nerd.

That's another thing. January/February is a dumping ground for studios. The crap that they made that they want people to have forgotten about by the end of the year is usually put there. Elektra being a prime example.

It actually does look really good in the trailer. I have wanted to see it despite it not having a single thing in it that would normally draw me to the theatre. Very disturbing and stylized. Let's hope the trailer reflects the film rather than a keen marketing department.

Oh come ON! Haven't you ever seen "Little Buddha", where he plays the part of Siddhatha and..........shit, nevermind. Sorry.

But really, I don't have a problem with Keanu at all, except when it's Keanu playing the fucking part of Siddhartha.
