I kind of meant brands, but types will do too. I hate breadknives because a:they're serated and thus tricky to sharpen and b:it's hard to get left-handed versions. Obviously I'm not a complete spaz and can use the right handed ones (I can't tell the difference if I'm honest) but the fact that a left handed bread knife exists means that a normal bread knife will always be sub optimal to me.

Is kevlar any good against stabby knives?

I'm so English, I have no idea about suitable body armour.

no. It's cut/slice resistant, not puncture resistant.

i recall reading a bbc story last year about how the uk police's standard body armor doesn't stop knives at all, and some officer's mom bought her an anti-stab plate which saved her life. i believe there are certain groups pushing for the government to obtain such modifications for all officers.

A sweet little (ancient) super sturdy pocket knife my grandfather let me have when I helped him move from his house to the nursing home. It's got a scrimshaw inset of a tall ship. (It's older than the ban on real scrimshaw, he got it when he was in the Navy in his 20's). I always carry a pocket knife, and that one is my favorite.
