I dont know why other people got into this entertainment journalism type thing. But for me a big reason is to get to talk to my idols such as Ray Harryhausen.
The name, Ray Harryhausen, conjures up images of angry skeletons, Medusas eyes turning great beasts to stone and monsters crushing slow running Americans beneath their lizard feet.
Now a very special DVD has been released that will be of interest to anyone who loves fantasy pictures. Its the Ray Harryhausen: The Early Years Collection.
Awesome interview. He's just about the friggin' luckiest person in the world to me right now -- meeting Ray Harryhausen? That's beyond my realm of thought, it's so cool.
Haryhausen is one of my heros, as well. The man was a visionary for his time, and his work still has more heart and soul than anything to come out the Hollywood special effects houses today.
Harryhausen is definately one to look up to. He did movies right, paying attention to the most minute details. and also, come on, his claymation effects are just down right freaking cool as hell to watch. remember sinbad's fight with the sheeva statue? my favorite swordfight of any movie.
Rick Baker worked with Harryhausen way back when and now my friend Bill works for Baker. I love that most of the new guys still say CGI will never fully take over special efx.
my ex-wife used to work at tippett studio, and ray was there speaking with the animators, he and phil tippett are old friends. well e was signing autographs, and i was able to have a clash of the titans poster signed. he 's a genius.
sweet. i grew up with clash of the titans and i freaked out when i saw his name in the credits on ELF (he did th epenguin's voice). this is one of those interviews that makes me smile and just plain makes my day.
I had the pleasure of meeting Ray in the home of the two young animators who finished his Tortoise and the Hare project here a couple of years back (the mutual friend that introduced Ray to these young geniuses was my employer at the time), and have to admit that I was more starstruck meeting him than I've ever been with the more mainstream celebrities I've worked with.
Ray was amazingly spry for a man of his years --- I guess that a lifetime devoted to breathing life into your fantasies will afford that to you.
Kudos on an amazing interview! The breadth and quality of the interviews on SuicideGirls really was a really unexpected surprise when I joined... DRE does a terrific job.
