Ted Naifeh first came to fame as the co-creator/artist of GloomCookie. Now hes writing and illustrating his own books like Courtney Crumrin for Oni Press and How Loathsome for NBM Publishing.
The character of Courtney Crumrin has had three books all now available in Manga size trade paperbacks. Courtney is young girl whose parents have dragged her out to a high-to-do suburb to live with her creepy Uncle Aloysius in his big spooky house. There Courtney has had adventures with The Night Things,...
holierthancow and I saw Naifeh on a panel about goth comics at Dragon*Con around the time we were starting to scribble out our own goth related webcomic. He made sitting on a panel yacking about the comics he does look fun, which kind of helped encourage me to work harder so that I might be able to get on a panel some day. So, in a way, Naifeh was an influence on my strip even though I've never read a single thing he's done. Funny how shit like that works.
i love it when i know a little bit about someone but one of these interviews makes me know and want to know a shitload more. one of the main attractions of the site, i think.
I ♥ Courtney, Gloomcookie and How Loathsome! Ted is definitely up in my top 3 favourite writers and illustrators. I had no idea Courtney Crumrin was so popular...a movie! Wow.
He looks really familiar, does he live in SF? Maybe I've just seen him at APE.

I wish Ted was a regular staple at the SLG booth, his books are hot. Come back to us, Ted.
Ah yes, those were the days! Hey, Pirate, I wonder how many other SLG people have accounts here?
As for Ted's saying Johnny was more likely to appeal to teenage boys, there was a time I would have agreed, but very early on it was clear that the audience was pretty evenly split between males and females, which I thought was a damned cool surprise. apparently violent, delusional demantia is a unisex joy. The girls also tend to write the more coherent fanmail, too, so it all works out as far as I'm concerned.
