Okay, I'm thouroughly drunk right now on Bushmills Irish Whiskey. I have to admit I'm somewhat new to whiskies... Can anyone give me a review of any other brands, or any recommendations? I used to be a rum man, but consider me a convert! Looking for advice...

Red breast Irish, its really smooth, like an Irish single malt. But some advice to you, if you start drinking better whiskey, find a cheap brand to switch to after a few ounces, it'll save alot of cash, and you'll be just drunk enough not to notice that your drinking cheap swill. Have fun, may the morning be kind to you.

i was drinkin it.. alot when i was hangin with some people whom lived in a small town.. haha. good stuff. we pranked truck stops all nite. coz that was the only thing to do since we already hung out at wal-mart.

i kept findin floatin gnats in my drink.
so it doubles as a bug killer.

If you like irish whiskey, Knappogoue Castle is a light, accesible irish single-malt. It's not as common to find an irish single malt as it is to find a single-malt scotch, but at this point you should only be drinking based on what tastes good to you, so it doesn't really matter.

There's also the old standard -- Jameson's -- which is good whichever kind you buy.

I don't mean to insult you by assuming that you don't know the difference between scotch and irish whiskey, but just in case you don't, you might want to know that there is a difference which, depending on who you ask, can be based on a number of factors.. but for anyone unfamiliar with either drink, the most notable difference, taste-wise, is that generally scotch will have a more smokey flavor and will be a bit stronger-tasting while irish whiskey won't have the same smoke taste and might seem a bit lighter (generally).

There's also bourbon, which is a whole other, wonderful area to explore (if you haven't already).

Edit: also, you may run into some scotch/whisky snobs who'll say you should only drink single-malt anything and that american/canadian blends are rubbish... blah, blah... don't listen to them. Just drink what you like.

Excellent advice so far... Thanks! smile I'm still drinking, I'm SO gonna feel this in the morning! I've tried Jameson (tasty!) and Maker's Mark (okay, and the only "bourbon" I've tried) but have yet to try any Scotch... What's the big deal with "single malt"? I don't even know what that means. I COULD look it up, but I'mm way too drunk, and the South Park movie just came on. biggrin

Does anyone prefer American to Irish (or Scotch) Whiskies? What's the big difference between Irish and Scotch (besides country of origin)?

Keep it coming folks. I have a trip to "beverages and more" Liquor superstore to make in the morning, and I need to know what to try...

Exactly right after trying almost every wisky/burbon out there if you want to mix it with coke evans williams is the best tasting and really cheap also Drinking it straight is a whole different game though

Actually Jack Daniels ripped off Evan Williams. Evan Williams started 80 years before Jack. Jack just copied the Evan Williams label.

If you want to go absolutely apeshit, try Cadenhead's No. 3 Bond islay malt scotch.

It's 106 proof, smooth as hell, and you might have to travel to scotland, germany, london or holland to get it.

Good stuff.

Yeah, I'd reccommend you stop drinking Oliver Cromwell's piss and switch to Powers.

I'm a huge fan of Stranahans (made in Colorado) it's light and not aged very long, but man amazing! I really recommend you try it if you ever get a chance. Best manhattan I've ever had! But Jameson will always be my vice.
