I have a pal laid up in the hospital, she's not a member right now becuase she says if she was she'd never get any work done, but she did write this e-mail to me about why she's "obsessed" with SG. I was wondering if any other female members felt the same way...

A lot of Suicidegirl's girl fans I know are either lesbians or part of the demographic who has softened their subculture signifiers but miss their Manic Panic and spitfire days. I fall into both categories. Basically, when I was teenager and in college, I was a devote Riot Grrl and most of my friends were scrappy little punk kids and while I like my look now, I still admire tough-looking girls. I also stripped for two years in xxxxxx (hence the fucked up ankle) and really loved it, so I associate with the models having fun. Plus, I am bi and have frittered (or some other f word) hours of my life away on internet porn. Usually my tastes are towards 70s flicks or the cheesy amateur [names of porn sites removed] type shit because I (like a lot of Sarah Lawrence [her college] girls I know) am a feminist with a paradoxically misogynist streak so I tend to associate with the men on those sites and like objectifying the random little cuties. Which leads me to why I am obsessed with Suicidegirls - it is more cerebral because I'm not sure whether I like it because I want to fuck those girls or whether I still want to be like them.

TANGENT ALERT--
I'm from DC and my mom is friends with Molly from Bratmobile's mom. Anyway, Molly and her mom were really estranged for a long time, but a few years ago they started talking again and so Molly's mom calls up my mom and says--well, Molly sent me this CD and i want to listen to it, but i don't want to listen to it with any of my other friends because, well, it has some bad words on it. [she's real christian] So will you please come over and listen to Molly's CD with me. I think they were planning on maybe going to see them play some time, too. I just about bust a gut thinking of my mom and her pal sitting on some flower-print couch trying to dig Bratmobile.

While I think this is some interesting thought, you might want to take out the names of the hardcore sites, even though not linked...just to be safe.
