You'd think in a city such as San Antonio, finding a retailer that has a PS2 console in stock would not be a problem. We drove all around town today, hitting up the big retailers such as Best Buy and Circuit City. Nada. Smaller stores like EB or Game Stop? Nil.

We had to pawn ours last month due to no money...and now we have money to replace it, so...

Anyone know why the hell I can't get a friggen PS2 in this place???!!???

I realize that. I'm still curious as to why there aren't any stores that have them in stock.

That...and a good amount of people don't realize that this system is nothing more than just a smaller PS2 with a network adapter built in and no way to use the HD.

This is a busy month for retailers, expect stock to be low. The normal return policies have been extended for all those presents out there.

it's just a case of not enough slim models being produced, and the original models being discontinued. sony's also putting a good deal of their resources into the PSP, which launches here in two months. there'll definitely be more PS2s available by then.

I have always seen them in stock in Wal-Marts when all of the big time electronics stores are out. If you can brave the hell that is Sam Walton's creation then you might have some luck there.

I need a new PS2. I've had mine since the very first morning they were released on U.S. shores. Unfortunately it stopped playing dvds about a year ago, and now it's having trouble with PS2 games. It just can't satisfy me like it used to. I'm going to have to replace it with a younger, slimmer model.

yeah, there does appear to have been a shortage of hardware over the past few months. that has hurt sale numbers and angered several investment groups.

if it makes you feel any better, i've been trying to get my hands on a ps2 since before x-mas, so far with no success... frown

best of luck in your ps2 hunt!

I heard that the boat shipping the new small one from japan wasn't allowed through the Suez Canal for some reason. There were none in the shops for Christmas in the UK because of that.

Could be your answer.

Sony is making them hard to come by to artificially boost the demand before they flood the market with them. Patience, you'll have your PS2 soon enough.

My brother works for a video game store. He was naturally expecting that they would get a significant shipment of PS2 systems before the holidays, only to discover that Sony specifically chooses to NOT make the systems available, supposedly in order to make it seem more popular and hard-to-find than it really needs to be. This, of course, seems asinine fron Sony's point of view, and from the point of view of retailers who would do a lot more business if there were enough systems to sell to all those who want them.

Bottom line - blame Sony, not Best Buy or any other store. Sony is strict with their inventory, thus screwing both retailers and consumers.
