I watched a documentary on him over the holidays - what an utterly amazing individual, a total saint. I think it's so sad that some people think he's "creepy".

here are the words to my favorite mister rogers song:

It's You I Like

It's you I like,
It's not the things you wear,
It's not the way you do your hair--
But it's you I like
The way you are right now,
The way down deep inside you--
Not the things that hide you,
Not your toys--
They're just beside you.
But it's you I like--
Every part of you,
Your skin, your eyes, your feelings
Whether old or new.
I hope that you'll remember
Even when you're feeling blue
That it's you I like,
It's you yourself,
It's you, it's you I like.

words to fucking live by. that song brings me to tears.

Did anyone ever hear the National Lampoon Radio parody where Mister Rogers talks to the jazz musician? Now that was funny.

Watching Mr. Rogers is so comforting. There's nothing creepy about him. I absolutely adored his show when I was little. R.I.P.

this was the song performed on the show i watched this morning..

(you can never go down the drain)

You can never go down
Can never go down
Can never go down the drain.
You can never go down
Can never go down
Can never go down the drain.

You're bigger than the water.
You're bigger than the soap.
You're much bigger than all the bubbles.
And bigger than your telescope

So you see...
You can never go down
Can never go down
Can never go down the drain.
You can never go down
Can never go down
Can never go down the drain.

The rain may go down
But you can't go down.
You're bigger than any bathroom drain.
You can never go down
Can never go down
You can never go down the drain.

I still have some Mr. Rogers cassette tapes. I used to put "We Are Special" on corny mix tapes that I made for girls. I had a friend in 2nd grade that got a letter from him and I was insanely jealous.

Oh, and when I was 18 and moved out of the house, I put a sandbox in MY kitchen, too. But it just ended up becoming an ashtray.

i haven't seen the national lampoon parody, but he did go to talk to a jazz musician on his show before. i also seem to remember him going to talk to someone that makes brass instruments too.

and john costa, the writer of the theme song was a great jazz pianist. i love his piano solo in the theme song. mister roger's neighborhood was full of jazz.

Mister Rogers was awesome, I used to watch him every morning. I'm not sure if the PBS channel here airs his show anymore, and that's kind of sad. frown .

I remember seeing a show he did about art. He was teaching kids how to look at works by Picasso, and to see more than a bunch of weird shapes. I loved that show.

Very touching how he was able to bring that witch Joan Rivers to tears as well.

I saw that brass instruments show flipping through channels the other day. I actually stayed and watched it for a while, then stopped and thought, "Holy crap, I'm sitting here watching Mr. Rogers and it's every bit as fascinating as it was when i was 4!"

You rock, Mr. R.
