Nicole Kassell is the writer/director of the controversial film The Woodsman which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
Kevin Bacon is the films star and executive producer. He plays Walter, a pedophile, who returns to his hometown after 12 years in prison and attempts to start a new life.
I'm glad this film was made, and even happier it was driven by a first time director. That fact that she's a women gives me the impression that it'll be a more introspective look, something that sparks understanding. Even after reading it I'm alittle startled and questioning the nature of the disease(or if it is) it most likely an imbalance they(the offenders) aren't aware of or ready to acknowledge.
I'm looking foward to seeing it, and hope it doesn't become a vehicle for Bacon - like Philidelphia became for Tom Hanks.
Kevin Bacon has some serious cojones to play this character...
good on him - the more this disease is out in the open, the easier it'll be to control... instead of having people assume that it's "gay people" attacking children.
Sometimes, having to deal with the nasty shit up close makes people realize that plenty of their presumptions are asinine...
Just seen the film and I don't really know how I feel about it. I think I think it's a great film but I don't know. I will watch it again. It's handled well...............tough sort of subject matter. Would be easy to be flippant about the casts performances, easy to highlight "Little Red Ridinghood"'s performance. The violence? Vickie's sexuality, Kyra Sedgwick's pulling power?
Should you see it? Yes. Is it upsetting? I'd say no, it's too clever for that. Will it be overlooked? Probably.
