HELP WITH PHOTOSHOP 8!!!

i just got this program, and its pissing me off....i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to invert colors other that b & w....i can get it so it makes an image black and white, but i'm trying to get a black on black type of thing, i did it once by accident, and i also did a red/red inversion, all on accident, but i can't figure out how to do it.....any suggestions? sorry if this is confusing...

Image menu -> adjustments -> invert

That's where it is in 7 anyway.

I'm not sure I understand your question. You can invert a color image, but it won't give you a black on black effect.
