Just let them sit outside for a couple days. The petrol will evaporate naturally.

It's how I get smoke smell off of my leather jackets.. so it might just work for that as well. You might want to wash them first though.. because gasoline in their would be really bad for Bean's feet.

I learned that in the navy.

But you only do that for shoes.. so they don't scuff the drier. You wouldn't have to put the leather jacket in a sock, of course.
