Today as i was walking around, Ive been getting kind of creeped out with how technology is so big in our lives. Dont get me wrong though, i have a cell phone and cd player, i also whore myself out to computer games but its kind of creepy how everyone has this electronic umbilical cord these days, this obbsesive need to be connected all the time. are all these necessary? when will it be enough? when we have AC sockets in our asses?

i love being able to get information (and check out SG), so the internet is vital to me. i could probably do without everything else, except for the basics (lights, transportation, stereo, etc.). but things like cell phones, video game consoles, although nice to have, i could do without.

i think it's crazy, how when we're just sitting around, there's all this stuff in the air floating around us, like cell phone conversations, music, tv images, etc.

i promise, when the world looks like blade-runner or a william gibson novel i'll say "alright, fuckers thats quite enough!"

I generate a high entropy field. technology tends to break down around me. I'm down for gene therapy though. Some eyeshine, or some retractable claws, that'd be cool. But I got enough broke shit in my head already without adding a mobile brain phone or a "Reno"...

well I certainly look forward to the imminent convergence of some technologies i.e my cell phone, land-line phone, palm pilot, iPod, 5mp digital camera, GPS, remote control(s) etc are all in one device (with Terrabytes of stroage) and a permanently-on high speed, cheap connection. Interestingly we already seem to have got to the point where a portable device can't get any smaller (tho it would be technically posible to) without making it ergonimically unuseable,


Do we need all this stuff?.... No, and though I take the point about all this electromagnetic radiation all around us, filling the 'airwaves', bombarding us with (mis)information, compromising privacy and real human contact... I love it.

It does open up all kinds of socio-political & creative possibilities, it's just a question of how you use these tools, how you apply your own censorship or filitering and when or how much you choose to be 'off-line'.

I do still love reading a good book in a quiet room too, with the phone off
