It is called Warez and it examines the pathology of a warez d00d and his obsessive, monklike existence.

Hm. Just a character study, or is there a plot where he winds up being the only one who can save the world, but opts instead to sit around eating doritos and bragging on IRC that he's the only one who can save the world and trying to make money on that fact? Because I'm watch the latter version, but I'm not sure about the former.

Obviously you don't know about the scene where he sits around whacking off to hot hardcore porn.

I'd totally make that movie. As long as you don't sue my ass for doing so.

I'd watch that movie. I don't generally use warez, but I have in the past. And don't make the mistake that warez is something that software companies want to entirely eliminate. Gaining someone's product loyalty through illegal use is still gaining their loyalty. When you get a job and your company is gonna buy you s/w to work with, you say "Window OS, Photoshop, etc., etc." and thats how s.w companies want it. Gates may whine about piracy, but he would not have the market of windows-literat users without it.

Besides, if you view software as a tool to accomplish something positive, it is moral to only sell the capability of that positve accomplishment?

If I, in my kitchen, developed the cure for AIDS, do I have the right to 'own' that as intellectual property? If I mapped human or animal genetic code, do I own that as IP?

Software algorithm are nothing more than instructions, like a recipe, or a mathematical formula, or a dance routine, or a chord progression or melody, on and on.

People should be payed for their work, but at the same time should people without the means be limited in the knowledge they have access too?

And any progress developed by s/w companies was built on knowledge that *could* of been the lawful IP of earlier minds, if such laws would've existed then.

Moses asked God "Who are you?"
God said "I am"

Have these companies licensed the use of binary from its IP holder?.
