I'm lost

Hey there everybody...I'm trying to figure out the name of a particular type of thong that I've seen all over the internet in beach photos, etc. It's the type of g-string which, instead of going straight accross in the back, angles down toward your buttcrack. It sort of frames your buttcheeks more than a regualar thong would. Is it called a "V thong," or is there a more specific name for it? I'll try to post a pic if I can find one.

I've seen those too (if what I'm thinking about is what you're referring to) and think they are pretty cool. I'm totally into asses, so anything that shows the posterior in a flattering light gets my kudos. love

When I worked for Victoria's Secret, we had thongs and v-strings. The v-string is a G-string (but VS called it a V-string b/c victoria's secret, the V, etc, etc), anyway...

The only difference: the thong has more coverage in the back (and the front too). There's about a 1"-2" more fabric coverage on a thong than there is on a g-string/v-string.

So yeah. I have no idea if that answers your question. Or if you were asking a question. I'll go away now. smile

Why the heck were they called G-strings to begin with?

I'm probably retarded for not knowing this.

One theory on the origin of the word... It comes from a Native American word.
Many etymologists believe that it originated from the native word "geestringi." Apparently this was an item of clothing worn by some Plains Indians. The word was changed to the more English sounding "G-string."

Theory One: It's short for "girdle string."
The first known reference to the item was found in J.H. Beadles' Western Wilds penned in 1878. "Around each boy's waist is the tight 'geestring,' from which a single strip of cloth runs between the limbs from front to back." Back in the day, a girdle pretty much fit the above description.

Theory Two: It's a reference to a fiddle.
Musically speaking, a G-string is the lowest, darkest string on a violin. The emphasis on this theory is on the word "low" -- low note, low-cut underwear.

Theory Three: It comes from a Native American word.
Many etymologists believe that it originated from the native word "geestringi." Apparently this was an item of clothing worn by some Plains Indians. The word was changed to the more English sounding "G-string."

A girdle cinches your waist and holds up your pantyhose. That other thing... does not.
