I go through two pairs a year. They're only twenty bones. Gotta swap in the black laces though...

For some reason, Cons were acceptable formal footwear at my last job. I wore them instead of shoes smile

For anyone that is bothered by Converse Chucks because they're made in Veitnam now or because Nike own the company:

No Sweat shoes are almost identical to Chucks. They look like them and feel like them. And they're made by unionised workers in Indonesia.

i've never really liked cons, their low-tops are too low and their hi-tops too high, plus they are rather plain.
i always liked airwalks...those always last a few years.

but seeing as their latest line is utter shit, i'm not really sure what my next shoes will be (never vans)...but i shouldn't have to worry about that for quite a while.

I like my black chuck's but they make this weird popping noise when I walk in them. It drives me nuts. I can't explain it. surreal

Mine do too, and I'm surprised no one else has metioned this.

Still, I've had these fuckers for almost ten years and they're still going strong.

like when they get the air pocket between the sole of the foot and the shoe?? yeah...i think that's cause they're so gosh darn flat.

i'm surprised my feet haven't gotten flat enough to override this airpocket by now though...

i do love my chucks - i have a black low-tops pair and a pink high-tops pair that i haven't ever worn because they're too big. come to think of it...i need to find those and exchange 'em...

I have a pair of black-on-black high top Cons and I'm not ashamed.
I'm nothing near a hipster or an emo, and because they aren't the characteristic black and white ones, most people don't even realize I'm wearing Cons.
I've had them 2 years, which is pretty good for as much walking as I do, and for being non-leather.

I used to wear chucks all the time. my last pair was a pair of neon green ones that I bought on clearance, probably because the company was going under. didn't really wear them much, don't even know if they fit any more. I think it's sad that they are not made in the us anymore, and that they cost $40- $50. It's ridiculous.
I did pick up two pairs of LL Bean camp shoes at goodwill one day, though.. they are super chucks from way back when with some tread and estra rubber on them. $3/pair... eeek biggrin

The non-US Converse suck, unfortunately. They changed the materials they use for the heel - which dries out and cracks up in a matter of months. So, my current pair will be my last - probably look at some of the knock offs to see if they're any better.

I'm still hanging on to my last pair of US-made cons though...

I like All-Stars 'cos they have cool lines and you can still feel the ground through them.

They used to be cheap and well-made.
Well, sort of well-made.
They were higher quality than they are now, anyway.
And less than half the price.
frown

On a side note, I had a pair when I was really little (kindergarten?) that were hot pink with orange dinosaurs on them. If anyone knows where I could find these in an adult 10.5, I will do damn near anything to get my hands on them.

Hot pink with orange fucking dinosaurs!!!

my brother had the same pair. those were so fuckin cool.

it's funny...I remember when wearing Chucks would get you ridiculed...and they cost $20. Now they're back in and run about $40.

Incase you guys didn't know ...

Nike are the ones who make Chuck Taylors. Its no secret that Nike owns Converse.

As much as I love my Chucks, I've been wearing them since I was 10 and must have owned about 20 pairs over the years, if you're looking for an "anti-establishment" shoe you'll need to find something else.
