CULTURE: Experimental HIV Drugs Tested on Kids in NYC

The city of New York has been testing highly experimental drugs on HIV positive children without the knowledge of their parents. Parents who attempted to take their kids of the drugs due to terrible side effects may have their children taken into protective custody.

"We were told that if they were vomiting, if they lost their ability to walk, if they were having diarrhea, if they were dying, then all of this was because of their HIV infection."

In fact it was the drugs that were making the children ill and the children had been enrolled on the secret trials without their relatives' or guardians' knowledge.

As Jacklyn [foster mother of HIV positive kids] would later discover, those who tried to take the children off the drugs risked losing them into care.

Jacklyn, a trained pediatric nurse, had taken the fatal step of taking the children off the drugs, which had resulted in an immediate boost to their health and happiness.

As a result, she was branded a child abuser in court. She has not been allowed to see the children since.

This isn't the first time this has happened and I doubt it's the last, a lot of US doctor seem to have WW2 Nazi ethics when it comes to non-whites or mentally ill.
Check out "the monster experiment" or the Tuskegee Syphilis Study and never trust your doctor again.

Not very credible. Especially since this story originally aired on November 30; you'd think someone else would have picked up this story in the past two weeks.

I always wonder when a storoy like this comes out why some people immediately start to do damage control by denying it without any proof that the storyis false.

It named a Dr and a Lawyer you could get their number from information and call them if you have doubts.

Too bad for the bad spelling but I have a thriple row of smiles right in the center of the text box and I cant see half of what I am typing

You say it like that's a proven point. You forget all the scandals in the past two years within CBS, BBC, New York Times, and Usa Today, where employees would make up the information and copy and paste what they needed for articles. Hell one case, the guy didn't leave his apartment, even though his articles came from all over the world. That's why a good rule of thumb is never believe one source.

Damage control? AmI affiliated with any of the parties involved? My point was that, in the 18 days since this story first broke, the only other news sources that have picked it up have been fringe outlets that have no new information and claim the BBC report as their only source. This is not exactly an unremarkable story- I don't think I've ever heard of anybody using a captive population with no legal rights for AIDS testing in this country- but mysteriously every major news source outside of this BBC program has kept mum. So, there's either a conspiracy involving ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox News, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and every other news outlet and paper of record...

or there's something a little fishy about the story. Which do you think it is?

It's called questioning authority. Don't fault people for not immediately believing what they're told: it's something not too many people do nowadays: RATIONALIZE.

Don't piss on people just because they don't agree with a story you desperately want to be true.

I don't know, given the BBC's reputation as a world-class and reputable media organization and virtually all of American media's reputation of being extremely biased, I would ordinarily trust the BBC's reporting. In this case, though, virtually all of this report traces back to this Liam Scheff guy who has been rattling his saber for quite a while on the subject. The nurse is even mentioned here. This is something published months before the november story. Smells like BS.

this kind of thing would be the top headline on every cable news outlet in the nation if it were true, i think. it would be featured in every op-ed column in every newspaper in the country. but aside from the drudge report, i haven't heard anything about any of this anywhere else
