I'm sitting here on the boards procrastinating instead of doing my Chinese homework...so I'll compromise...
There seems to be an international influence here-so who can speak or is learming to speak what?

I know or forgot:
French (which I'm forgetting), Chinese (learning-if you can call it that)
Forgotten: Hebrew after 4 years of learning, Latin after 4 years of suffering

and is is "Jak ze mas" (phonetically) in Polish for "How you doin'?"

Some French, a bit of conversational Spanish (like everyone in Cali, I think), minimal German despite taking it through grade school, some Latin, but wow, I'd love to learn more.

Now just because I'm a linguistics major doesn't mean I speak a bunch of languages. It's just a coincidence.

American English: yah, I speak that. Being in Canada has given me a taste of Canadian English as well.

French: I took it for a year, and can speak it marginally.

Hebrew: Took it in high school and university, and spent some time in Israel, so I'm fairly good at it..

That's about it, but I'm always up for another language. What do you folks recommend?

I used to be able to sorta speak Klingon.
About five years ago I bought a couple of those English-to-Klingon-and-back-to-English dictionaries and taught myself how to string together about three horribly simple sentences. Then I got bored of it. And I can't remember anything now. Damn shame, that.

Spanglish and Japanese (chot-to!).

Oh, and all the French I know is from watching French movies. So it ain't so great!

I used to keep a long list of how to toast in languages but I seem to have lost it. I was up around 25 different languages or so.

I WISH I knew Esperanto.

I used to speak Japanese pretty well, but then I started learning German and it all went away. Most of it. Enough to know desidia talks japanese weird. And here I am, forgetting most of the german I learned.

*sigh*

Next year I'm going to take French or Spanish... maybe Chinese if I feel like doing a bit more work... or Russian... god, I could take anything...

I GUESS I speak English passibly.

i want to learn sankrit so i can read vedic texts!

i know english, and i understand spanish fairly well, and used to speak a bit of russian. lots of people think russian is gutteral and ugly - it's simpler than english, but a lot of the individual words are far prettier than their english counterparts.
