John Waters is the legendary director of Pink Flamingos, Hairspray and Cecil B. DeMented. His latest film is the NC-17 rated A Dirty Shame which pits a sex crazed cult versus the upright neuters in Baltimore.

Check out the official website for A Dirty Shame

Daniel Robert Epstein: Did you pick Selma because she is the skinniest person that you could put gigantic boobs on?

John Waters: No, I never even thought of her as skinny. I just thought of her as being a really good comedian and a really...

I mostly love his movies from Polyester and earlier... but I saw him earlier this year, and he's definitely still funn to see speaking, live in person.
I never saw Cry Baby or Hairspray because I didn't think they were "tough" looking enough and I didn't like Serial Mom or Pecker... but I'm starting to want to see them now. I'm more receptive to musicals and cheese.

John himself had said that his favorite was Multiple Maniacs but this year he said Female Trouble. Mine also used to be Multiple Maniacs but I'm leaning more towards his choice or Pink Flamingos now. His '70s movies are all of a greater whole, anyway.

My parents raised me on John Waters...we still quote lines from his book on tape (him reading it) Shock Value. If I could get my hands on that tape I'd trade an ovary for it.

Last spring I drove up to Philly and we drove through Baltimore and I wanted to stop (but we didnt' have time) just to buy a souvenirr. I did get to say, "Hey kids, we're going to baltimore! YAY Baltimore!!"

My parents went to meet him when he spoke at the University of TN, but I missed it ,*pout*

I hope the city recognizes him as a treasure.

And I agree...total genius.

What a great interview.

His movies don't seem off the wall or screwy to me - just inspired. Kinda like the marx brothers meet orson welles.
Why is it that he seems more grounded and honest than any other movie director in america?

I guess it's about to come out on DVD or something? But I thought he was promoting his John Waters Christmas record.

I want to say this was an awesome interview.. It was so great to read, being the huge John Waters fan that I am. Now when I picture him, I can hear the music he talks about from Cinderella. how fitting !
i've always loved all of his films, Polyester being pretty much my favourite, I mean c'mon..Stiv Bators with a baseball bat and skin tight jeans!!! HOT !!!
I only wish Wendy O. Williams would have performed in one of his movies back in her day.
Once again, thanks to Suicide Girls for the interview! and to John!!

I think arse is really offensive in England, way more than it is here, the same way people say cunt in England all the time and it’s not bad like it is here.

John. John! It's the other way round!!!

It's cute if a guy says in a bar "Nice arse" (but prolly "ass" coz they all want to sound like Americans). If the guy said "Hey nice cunt" I'd kick him in the head puke
