I'm still waiting for a boxed set of all three extended versions plus something else cool before I buy any of the DVDs.

Boxed set of all three extended editions is available on 12/14 as well.

The music/video markets work like this... 99% of all releases come out on the same day of the week. This makes logistics and advertising considerably more efficient. Rare exceptions to this are made (usually for a major event release).

In the US, Tuesday's the day.
In Canada, UK, and most of Europe, Monday's the day.
In Ireland (for some reason), the previous Friday's the day (meaning they're a few more days ahead, not several days behind).

Who gets it first also depends on whether it's an international release or not. Not all albums or movies get released worldwide during the same window of time. 28 Days Later, for example, was already out on video in the UK by the time it was released in the US.

That said, if someone knows of a store in LA selling ROTK extended before the release date, please drop me a line wink

In the Uk though, sometimes we get a friday release too, and our DVD's are usualyl released on Fridays I believe.

The newest Eminem album, Encore, was release dont he Friday before the original Monday release date because the record company feared people might download it before thery bought it.

Already have it and watched it a couple of times (the Mouth of Suron sequence is FANTASTIC!)

[trilobyte and lostarchitect - try the 20/20 video stores around town. They always get big releases up to a few weeks early, and that's where I got mine last week.]

I'm having a big viewing party on the 18th when a bunch of friends are coming over to watch all three extended editions in one sitting--about 12 hours. 43" Plasma, and earth-shaking DTS should make it fun. Can't wait!

so?

what do people think of this version?

i found that not unlike the two towers, there were a few incidents of unnecessary scene-lengthening that kinda messed up the tension and pacing, but overall i really liked the additions.

Did they slice back in the all-hobbit gang bang at the end? It was certainly implied, but the theatrical cut really left you hanging.

Ah, man, I was really looking forward to some wizard on wizard action. Maybe I'll just have to rent Lord of the Porn Rings: Return of the Shwing again.
