The regular news sources are linking to a trailer for Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. AICN calls it unhinged, and I would have to agree with them.

Johnny Depp looks... well... he looks... He looks like he's coming for your soul. And he knows it is delicious! And that dentist. Man, you walk into a dentist office and see that man with tooth tools... RUN! The film looks absolutely unhinged, as a Wonka film should. And that song... it is playing and replaying in my mind like a damnedable jingle of mouseketeer sirens luring me to my death. BEWARE! This is some SCARY Stuff. Dahl might have been quite proud of this version of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY...

I do think Depp has a bit of a Jeffery Dahmer/Michael Jackson thing going on, but it looks fantastic.

And you will not get the song out of your head.

That song has been in my head for the past fifteen minutes. Gah!

It looks like Burton captured the eerie quality of the book. Bravo. Disney's version was good, but only if you haven't read the book. Disney thought it would be better to blow sunshine up everyone's ass instead of showing what a complete sadist Wonka was. Boo.

Of course, Wilder did do a fantastic job when it came to stuff like the deadpan, "No. Wait. Stop." smile

I fucking loved that too.

I also loved it when Agustus got caught in the pipe and he said "The suspense is terrible! I hope it'll last!"

I didn't see any Oompa Loompas in that preview. frown I can't wait to see what they look like.

Perhaps Burton wants to keep SOME things a surprise, though. All of the scenes flashed by fairly quickly, which is cool. I'd rather be surprised. I can't stand previews that show almost the entire movie.

I still can't wait to see the Oompa Loompas, though. Creeeepy.

Actually they were in the trailer. if you go frame by frame you'll see a guy playing a keyboard and a wide shot of a band. they are oompa loompas. they aren't a really bright orange though

Johnny Depp is so fucking hot.

Not to nitpick or anything, but Disney had absolutely nothing to do with the original film. It was produced by David L. Wolper Productions and then released by Paramount, later Warner Bros. 100% Disney-free.

There definitely is a slightly weird quality to this one that wasn't in the original film... very Tim Burton/Johnny Depp.

I can't see this one being on TV on Christmas morning, though- I think it's more directed at the people that read it as kids and have now grown up, than people that still are kids... er, you know what I mean.
