her new movie is quite a departure from the lightness and whimsy of AMELIE with its brutal scenes of WWI trench warfare and the mysterious fate of 5 soldiers punished for self-mutilation

prettydirty things was the opposite of ameile.
happenstance and he loves me/loves menot was more in line with ameile.
Her wwI epic sounds good...
Amelie and I have become one. It's one of my favorite movies. But A Very Long Engagement didn't really do it for me. Audrey was totally fine in it (nice butt shot!), but the movie ended on such a happy note and I couldn't help but wonder "Is this really a good thing?" I would say no. And Jodie Foster's performance was completely overrated.
As a side note, I actually walked past the woman who played the hypochondriac from Amelie when I was walking down some random street in France. Of course, it didn't really click that it was her until she was long gone. but there's no doubt in my mind that it was her. I have a witness, too! heh. aaaanyway.
Although I don't know too much about Audrey herself, I do know that Amélie is my dream woman. Such a cute character, and such a cute actress. I could watch that movie all day. (Actually, when I do watch it, I watch it several times in a row.)
Audrey Tautou is capable of saying a lot with just her facial expressions so it makes sense that she can play as someone that keeps things inside herself without expressing them vocally.
An amusing example is when I showed people I knew the cover of Amelie they all had different reactions. My mom saw herself in her, her quirky fun side and my step-dad thought it was probably a sinful movie "cuz she looks crazy and weird."
