No, I think she meant that the recovery tool recognized two additional partitions, beyond the primary Win2K one.

Yes!

I'm gonna keep my computer on & ask -- what on earth is writing over my music? Windows doesn't event recognize that those 30 other gigs exist, it thinks it's grooving on 10 gigs. Gah.

oh, I must have misread something. I thought you said you had one big drive C and one little linux drive... is there still a bunch of missing space?

The way im reading this, it seems like the F partition should be gone, and it should be merged into the main partition of the drive.

that's what I thought... never mind!

Yeah, like the data recovery software recognizes that there's one little 108 mb drive and one 30 gig drive that windows isn't recognizing.

Sigh. I'm thinking about just trying to reformat those 30 gigs and then refinding all of the music and putting it on. The only issue I have is that I want to keep the directories the same on my new f drive so that I can keep my itunes names intact.

You mentioned Partition Master... did you mean Partition Magic? If so, what version of Partition Magic did you use?

Edit: Egad! I just looked at the clock, and at my schedule for work tomorrow, and I have to call it a night. We are fast reaching the modest limits of my Win2K and FAT32 knowhow, anyway, so I'll be useless soon. Good luck with this, though. I had my media disk fried a couple months ago on my Windows box, so I understand your frustration. Best of luck getting your music back painlessly.

What I did to keep my iTunes library intact was use the ability of iTunes to organize music. I backed up my iTunes library file (/my Docs/My Music/iTunes/), and then completely delete the library. I then grab al the music I have backed up, and use the option iTunes has of organizing my library into folders by Artist/Album, and then it does that, and I delete the new iTunes library file and replcae it with my backed up one, and then it works again.

BEWARE: You must have used the organize music feature before, or it won't work. Also, you need to make sure that if you perhaps had your music on the "F:" drive, your new parttition will need to be the F: drive, and then you can move everything around later. To change drive letters, go to Computer Management-->Disk Management.
