Hi everyone ,

I was wondering if anyone here tried the hypnosis method for quitting smoking? Does it work and are there any side effects or sorts?

i also heard there is a drug that makes the cigarette taste like crap so you cant smoke it even if you want to. I dont know the name of it does anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

Hypnosis is a scam.
What do you want to quit for anyhow? Cigarettes are tasty, and they make you look cool.

Hypnosis worked for my mom for about 6 months. Everytime she craved a cigarette, she threw up.

Eventually she got herself re-hypnotized.

I suggest you start by not putting cigarettes in your mouth anymore.

Simplicity is the best advice.

i'm a social smoker. no, i mean really. i'm not the guy that says he is and then bums a pack a day off everyone. i buy the pack. and then just don't finish it for a month or two. i've done that schedule for about 7 years now.

when i was 20 or so i was a two pack a day smoker. now six months or a year can go by without a cigarette entirely.

the only real advice i can give is to set up rules. first don't smoke at work or school, whichever you attend. then don't smoke before bed. then when waking up. then between meals. then just after meals. then when waiting for the bus. limit the times you smoke down to one or two occasions that you do quite rarely.

come up with another vice to replace it with. do it, as the great suggestion above implies, during / after a cold when you don't feel like smoking as much anyway, if you're that sort. move into a living situation where there's others or rules present that prohibit smoking if possible (ie: a non-smoking roomate that forces you to smoke out on the porch or something.)

lastly, don't try and tackle your sense of asthetic with smoking first. this is the thing every partnership for drug free america, anti-smoking campaign, and officer bob try and get you to do. smoking's not cool. smoking's for losers. man if you smoke, you're a joke. if you wanna be cool, helmets are the rule. etc.

if you think smoking's hot and/or fun, there's no way you're going to just suddenly and consistently start thinking otherwise.

don't make that first priority or even second. you can still enjoy the act of smoking without smoking. it's when you try and rewire your brain with a snap of the fingers that it starts rejecting and resenting the notion. just give it some rules. it's not your fault, it's not that you don't like smoking, it's just these silly rules.

lastly, don't become some obnoxious holier-than-thou jackass once you quit. if there's one thing i can't stand, it's people who quit and then go on some crusade to do the world a feckin favor.

best of luck :]

Try smoking, drinking, and doing hard drugs until you start coughing up blood and funny looking chunks of your insides.

Worked for me. wink

try fracturing you skull. nicotine slows down the healing proccess (so the doctors tell me). having an interest in not slowing down your healing process should help you quit smoking. it worked for me.

you won't llike the methodology here but it is proven to make you quit.

smoke 7-8 cigarettes in a row. one right after another. and fast. not slowly and casually as if you are enjoying it. what will eventually happen thru repeated inhales, is you will begin to not like the taste/effect as it will bring on unpleasant physiological responses (nausea, dizziness). instead of the smoking eliciting a pleasant feeling, it will elicit a negative one.

hypnosis is not empirically supported with research. i mean it could work for you if that's your thing... but...

i'd save your money by going this route.

I only know of one guy who quit smoking from hypnosis.
And, no, he never threw up when he had a crave... he really didn't crave at all.

But, like some people said above, I would try another way first.
Some of the things that thehedgehog said, sound like they are worth trying.

Good luck!

PS. One way that might help a little, it to tell all your family and friends that you are trying to quit. They will harass you and make you feel bad anytime they see you smoking.

My last was 1/5/2000 after more than 20 years. I had stopped several times twice for more than a year but I backslide and always there was some bullshit excuse. The only way t o stop is to quit and never again pick up a cigarette.

The drug is called Xyban in the UK, it stops the craving too, a friend of mine tried it and it worked for him.
There are some side effects, but if you can put up with them for a few weeks you've got a good chance of quitting.
BTW my friend is still not smoking (tobacco) after a couple of years.

I've only ever used hypnosis to re-train my brain to turn me into a killer automaton.

I don't know about quitting smoking though.

I quit cold turkey after smoking a pack a day for 12 years (Reds).

Here are some tips that friends have used to go off slowly:
1)Start eliminating the "necessary" smoke. Like, if you 'need' a cigarette after a meal, or with booze, give those up first. Its hard, but it'll help.

2)Don't let yourself smoke indoors. Especially your own place. Once your apt. starts to smell all nice, you won't want another cigarette in there.

3)Buy some toothpicks. Yes, you'll be "that guy with the toothpick," but it will help with the oral fixation.

4)If your going off slowly, start by switching brands: If you smoke Camels, never smoke them again.

5)Get exercise. A lot. Drink Water. A lot.

Point Blank said about all I'd have said... except GET RID OF THE SMELL... in your car in your house on your clothes... wash the smell out so it starts to bother you. Smell your hand everytime you put one out too.

I didn't notice it for a long time and then it was all I could think about... I loved smoking but I couldn't take the smell and I said buh-bye
