Why do girls want horses?

I just spoke with my 7-year-old daughter, who has "a real horse" at the top of her Christmas wish list. It was the first time it occurred to me that I've often heard that from young ladies: "I want a horse/pony/unicorn." Action figures for little boys can be traced back to toy soldiers from war times, I suppose. Where does the horse thing come from?

HAHA.......... I just told somebody in their journal that I wanted a pony for christmas...but I really don't want one..they shit turds bigger than my fist, and that is just no good...actually I have never wanted one.... I would like a Chinchilla though..

i wanted a pony when i was a kid i wanted one of those barbie jeeps that you and your BFFE can ride around in too.. i never got either, and now my mom just bought the barbie jeep for her granddaughter, my niece.

It goes back in history, for sure.. but I don't think I've ever seen a reason why. Maybe because "way back when" they were probably like the most common animal and girls are just like "awww it's so pretty" when they see a pony. Damn that Anne of Green Gables/Anne of Avonlea shit.

I don't know what the allure is now, though. I never wanted one. But I wasn't delusional either, I knew they were smelly and take big dumps at any ol' time. I didn't get sucked into the Lisa Frank unicorn trapper keeper fad in 1st grade, either. Ha.

I wanted a horse forever, and I got one.
I'm also pre-vet, and going to be an equine veterinarian.
I just like horses.

Plus of course theres that whole, only child princess syndrome thing I have..

i was a horse crazy girl too. my younger sister is even worse.

i think it because they are pets you can ride. lots of kids want puppies and kittens. a horse is like a REALLY big dog that can jump over fences.

plus you can brush and braid their hair. girls love to braid hair.

Jumping is definitely one of the major reasons I ride.
Riding is a sport. So, there's always that aspect.

And yes, I like to brush and braid my horses hair... there's always that too.

Okay, well I can't really answer your question, because I was scared to death of horses. But I have heard a lot of women say the first time they had an orgasm was when they were riding a horse.. I know that sounds weird, but it's just a physical reaction to the movement. A lot of women have them on the monkeybars or something, too. Maybe they've heard from one of their friends that it feels good? (not that it gives you "orgasms" because they don't understand that, just that it feels good).
Who knows. That's just my guess.

Edit: This shouldn't be construed as creepy or sexualizing children, but they have physical reactions to such things, too. At this point it's not "sexual", but a physical response.
