Greek lawyers have delayed a suit against director Oliver Stone over his latest film, Alexander. They had previously demanded a credit appear before the film that states that Stone's motion picture is pure fiction. This is fueled by Grecian rage and widespread animosity over his depiction of an Alexander the Great that liked the man-booty.

The lawyers' leader, Yiannis Varnakos, denied homophobia was the motive behind their action.

"We would have reacted the same was if the issue didn't involve homosexuality," he said.

"We just don't want a distortion of historical facts." […]

Alexander's place in Greece's history has caused controversy in the past.

Two years ago, a conference on the Macedonian-born ruler was stormed as a paper about his homosexuality was about to be presented.

The lawyers hadn't even seen the movie when they filed suit.

What a difference 2,500 years makes.

Dear Greece,
Smooth move, Ex-Lax.

Love, Jane.

Suing or threatening to sue a moviemaker for controversial/"false" content always ends up being a Win for said moviemaker and a Loss for the (potential) complainant. Idjuts.

Free publicity that will boost box office return and maybe even save the film, should it need saving! It has worked time and time again.

No of course not disturbed_13. They must be fakes placed there by the Homosexual Agenda!!!!1! Help help the gays have our marble!

Excuse me while I go back to reading my contemporary sources. Perhaps the lawyers should do the same. He probably wasn't homosexual as we define it, but very likely had sex with men and enjoyed it. Modern definitions don't really apply to ancient societies anyway.

"We would have reacted the same way if the issue didn't involve homosexuality," he said.

bullshit, frankly

furthermore, any film of this kind is a distortion of historical facts by its very nature. this is fucking Hollywood we're talking about. if Mel Gibson can get away with depicting a compassionate Pontius Pilate, these guys don't have a chance in contesting Alexander. but then of course this is homsexuality, and it is eating away at the moral fibre of our culture, a culture that takes such pride in persecuting the victimless crime. bravo, you cunts.

Sidewinder Boss: Hey. Hey. How many times do I have to tell you? No shirt, no service. Get the hell out of my store. What do you think this is, Club Med?
Doug: It's called America, dude. Learn the rules.
Sidewinder Boss: "Learn the rules?" No, YOU learn the rules. We Greeks invented democracy.
Doug: You also invented homos.

Looking this up on the IMDB, I also see a little news item that this lawsuit has been delayed for the lawyers to, you know, actually see the movie.

Not to swing the course of discussion *too far* off course from the absolutely riveting discussion going on about man-booty, and how much Alexander liked it, but my understanding has always been that Pilate *was* somewhat compassionate. I haven't seen the movie though, so I don't know to what degree he pushes the issue.
