After House of Pain had their few big hits in the early 90s, everyone thought they would just disappear. For a while, they actually did. Then Everlast [born Erik Schrody] really kicked out the jams, and turned up the heat on the rap world with 1998s Whitey Ford Sings the Blues. However, while recording, he suffered a massive cardiac arrest stemming from a congenital defect, resulting in heart bypass surgery and an artificial valve implant. His follow-up album, Eat At Whitey's, was critically acclaimed, but didnt...
Haha, he wanted to talk to one of the freaky bitches. Whitey is probably the only person besides eminem's to pull of a crossover well besides Eminem. The rest I'd never listen to. He seems to have been influenced some by a Nashville sound, though.
I guess the big argument is who is the curent true genius of music: Everlast or Unkle Kraker??? Maybe we'll never truly know...
Actually, this is a rather glib comment. I'm a sort of self-appointed music snob. But, I'd be pissed if someone said something like that about a musician i liked (westerberg, pollard, dylan, although I did make jokes about Bob D years ago when he had his heart trouble). I feel bad about posting it, but I won't edit it out so people can see what a stupid smart ass i can be sometimes. SO, to the Everlast HoP fans, please, no hitting.
Thank you.
I always enjoyed the Irish side of his music, however I think that many performers (musicians, actors) should never speak publicly, outside their mediums. Rollins and Biafra though, are two great excecptions.
