I guess with no male parents the children are also at less risk of sexual and physical abuse. So, maybe lesbian parents are safer??

This is a common misconception. Sure, males are more likely to physically abuse a child than females, but females are more likely to pyschologically abuse a child. And both males and females are equally likely to sexually abuse children-- as sexual abuse is niether purely physical or purely psychological.

On a separate note, I am disgusted at those people who think gay men shouldn't be parents because they're going to "prey on" the children. First of all, straight men are more likely to sexually abuse children (especially young boys) than their gay counterparts!, and second of all, a lot of gay men are in higher income brackets and would be better able to support a child.

mad Homophobia makes me mad!

i am a lesbian and believe that when i decide to have children, i will be a damn good parent. so many straight couples take advantage of the fact that it is so easy to have babies...of course when i become a parent, it will be very important for my children to have a positive male role model in their lives and i believe that EVERY child deserves to grow up with a father. the cool thing about gay parents is that we think about these kinds of things when we decide on having families and really plan ahead...people always think of gay families as the absence of a certain sex, when in fact a majority of gay families have just the opposite. there are 2 moms and a dad or even 2 moms and 2 dads.

by the way, i am impressed with the amount of support i have seen in these posts. THANKS everyone! biggrin
