You know, I don't want to turn this into a flamewar, because I'm not flaming you at all, but I think it's sort of an interesting discussion

I used to get worked up about shit like this. These days, not so much. I always feel like I'm constantly bombarded with death and destruction by the media, and I frankly have become desensitized. And I really don't have a huge problem with that. The saturation level has reached critical overload; I simply think that if every time on the news I heard about someone dying or some other sad thing, I would have slashed my wrists by now. And in this case, I think the thing people were laughing at was not that someone died, but the irony involved in the death. In my mind, that's actually healthy. Just because people laughed doesn't mean that they secretly wanted the guy to die, or they don't feel sorry for his family and friends. It's just a story with a dark irony to it; they read it and chuckled.

Then again, my sense of humor is pretty dark.

Was it another case of an old person "accidentally" hitting the gas when they meant to hit the breaks?

You know...if I die in a funny, ironic way...and it ends up on the newswire...I want everyone to know that they have my full blessing to laugh their fucking asses off if they feel so inclined. My best friend in recently died and I, along with several others who loved him very much, laughed as much as we cried. I despise the notion that we're supposed to rope off our emotions into bullshit prisons of social acceptability. I've been through a lot of terrible shit in my life and there's not one thing that I can't look at with an element of humor. This guy lived a pretty full life...the fact that he's dead isn't really a big fucking deal. It sucks for his family...but ya know what? He was going to die eventually. We all are. You, me, everyone of us is eventually going to stop living and if I give some people a good hearty laugh when I shuffle off the mortal coil all the better, I say.
