There isn't a clear answer on this one, afaik. The truth is that a lot of religious practices are designed simply to give a group of people a common identity - to seperate themselves from others. Supposedly the not-eating-pork thing isn't really related to any practical reason other that it being different from what gentiles did.

Oh. I thought it was because it was very dangerous to eat swine while in a desert area (food poisoning) and that not being able to bathe very often could lead to health issues if the foreskin was left on. I figured tying it into religion was a way to make sure everyone complied, for their health's sake. I haven't done too much research into it.

I used to know a person whose uncle was a medic in the Western Desert in WW2. Sand under the foreskin causes ulcers on the glans.

From Reduced Shakespeare's "The Bible: The Complete Word of God Abridged"

"Abraham, give me your foreskin."
"What's that?"
"The useless lump of flesh at the end of a penis."
"I thought that was a man."
"Other end."
"Oh. Why do you want my foreskin, O Lord?"
"I'm making a wallet"
"Ah."
"When I rub it, it turns into a suitcase! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Seriously, it's a sign of our covenant."

see....the whole point of the crucifixion thing was so...you know...you wouldn't HAVE to make sacrifices...I thought that was a central tenent of chrisitanity...Is it tenent or tennett? or some other variation?

Man...it's good thing that Gutenburg used the printing press so the common man could read the bible...clearly this woman has been touched by christ's message.

Mental illness is a real thing and it does exist in this world.
I was amazed at the emphasis on religion in this thread.
