its much more amusing(but only slightly more disturbing) that the orginal post was pointing out that a strategy guide to a video game will outsell Vladimir Nabakov ten to one and many people choose to misread that as an attack on themselves, video gamers in general or Halo2 in the specific.

Not really, it depends on how you read it. A lot of people don't like elitism, especially when its applied within a subculture that was ostensibly built on inclusiveness and liberty. I'm not so concerned with the people who are taking minor offense to this (perceived) passive attack on the intelligence and general acceptability of video gamers (in general), but rather the people who take the time to spout off about how people should be doing this or that -- in this case, reading Nabokov or other books that we wished we had read but never really want to read.

After reading this thread, I must say that someone decided to jack the elitism up to 11 -- and that is disappointing.

I have the game Halo & I'm looking forward to playing Halo 2. I just can't imagine why Anyone would need a stratgey guide for a FPS game. I mean come on, you run around killing anything that doesn't look human, how could anyone need to read a book for that? Oh well, to each their own.
