Two of the most talked about films in recent history definitely won't be winning Golden Globe awards this year.

Neither Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ nor Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 are eligible for consideration for the awards.

Why, you might ask? Because Fahrenheit is considered a documentary and Passion is considered a foreign-language film. And according to the rules set forth by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globes top honors are reserved for non-documentary films in English.

But that's okay... one industry critic states that, unlike the Oscars, 'the Golden Globes have always been an industry joke' anyway.

I've always thought that the Golden Globe awards were better representations; not so influenced by the non-stop campainging that affects the Oscars.

I think there has always been a somewhat ditzy feeling to the Golden Globes.

IIRC, the Assosciated Foreign Press originally started as a bunch of film critics who, in order to make a name for themselves, published a list of "winning" films, actors, actresses, etc., in the LA Times. As the machine continued to feed itself, and as the "winners" began publicly thanking the AFP, an actual ceremony was created to really drive home the ass kissing that is...

HOLLYWOOD.

At least a comedy movie can win a golden globe. The only movies that win oscars are serious dramas, not necessarily good ones either. Anyone remember titanic.

I feel great when I see a film that moves me. It obviously doesn't matter who thinks a piece of art deserves an award or harsh criticism. I do like to know a film has integrity from the roots to the booth and one can't complain if one only watches blockbusters.
I love Titanic. I love Mike Leigh films too. smile
