I have a friend, She met me in real life. She meets people online. She is normal. She meets creepy people. Yes I am posting in a porn site. I seriously don't understand why anyone would want to meet via online unless you have some debilitating ailment that keeps you from going out. Perhaps its just because I am going to college and can easily meet people that I don't understand this but, from my perspective only creepy guys are online. Goddamnit don't take too much offense, I am a guy too. Normal girls go online and meet random ass guys then are upset when hes a douchebag? Why? If you didn't meet him through your network of friends why do you even expect him to be normal? Any thoughts ?

everyone I've ever met from online has been completely normal. In fact, it's usually the people I meet in real life that end up being douchebags. I'm in college too and everyone I know from college is a douchebag.

Yeah - not everyone that uses the internet is a fucktard smile

Believe it or not, a lot of people that use the net will have their own network of friends too. But just like going to a bar or whatever, there's always a chance that you'll meet a "douchebag" (how is referring to someone as something you keep your toiletries in offensive?) there, just like online.

I've met about 100 people from teh intarnet, and besides a couple of boring ones and annoying ones, nearly all of them have been really lovely people I wouldn't have otherwise met.

i've increasingly come to believe that most of the non-fucktards i know are people i've met over the intarweb.

unfortunately, most of them are also on other continents.

oh, and there's the fact that i pretty much don't meet people in reality anymore anyway.

uh, disregard this post.

almost all of my current friends are people I've met via the Interterd.

and more specifically from this site.

and they are all awesome people.

and not a single creepy one in the lot,
except one guy, and he got kicked off SG because of it.

I've met really nice, stable, normal people over the internet. I've met complete stark staring loons through people I know. Thus: real people are weird.

My point was not that people online were creepy, but guys looking to date girls after meeting them online. Or at least it seems that way. No one is what they seem to be online.

When you graduate you may find that your social life becomes much more limited. You may find that you hang out with the same people all of the time and that meeting new people is a rare event.

Getting a job can mean moving, you may find that you move about and so do your friends, so that your social life can come and go.

Meeting people on-line is just a practical solution to the problem of how to meet new people, which is especially good for those of us who don't like the chat up routine in noisy places.

I am female, and every man I've ever slept with I've met online. I'm talking relationships too. the guy I am with now I met on livejournal, but it turned out that he actually lived a few blocks from me and goes to the same college. I think he's wonderful. biggrin
I've also met lots of friends online, especially through SG. Joining regional groups here acts as a sort of screening- at least with SGSF- because they only let people into the group that everyone would feel comfortable inviting into their homes. smile

As a person who has met MANY people online (I've hung out with over 1/2 of the people on my friends list) I will tell you why this method is preffered at least by me...

You can get to know enough about people online before you actually hang out with them. You can find out their likes / dislikes... find out what kind of a person they are, etc. That way you have a better chance of things not being awkward and/or turning out shitty. Why waste time getting to know someone in person that you share no similar interests with, or have differences of opinion regarding important subjects with?

As far as creepies from the net are concerned... I've easily met over 100 people from the net over the years, and I've only one bad experience (a girl who failed to inform me she had severe mental issues). 1 out of 100. Not bad, huh?

I went to Florida to stay with two internet buddies who I had never met before. Awesome experience. A lot of the girls that I've dated I originally met online. I'm planning a trip up to New York to meet someone who I know only over the internet. I'm also saving up for an airplane ticket to California so that I can meet the lady who made my kilt.
