Dudes. smile

Say I'm more than likely moving out on my own for the very first time in January. This is the place where you help me out and post all your advice and lessons learned so that I might not make the same mistakes. Haha.

Okay thanks bye. smile

If you're renting a room, make sure your landlord isn't old and lonely.

Make sure to spend no more than one fourth of your monthly pay on booze.

Trust me on this one.

Remember to buy one of those utensil seperator things for the kitchen drawer. And lightbulbs. I remember moving out and realizing that being an adult meant purchasing a lot of random items that I had always taken for granted.

Not necessarily true depending on whether or not you pay for electricity.

Figure out how the utilities work at your new place (water, electricity, gas etc) - the radiator sprung a major leak at my new place recently, and I didn't have a clue where the water mains were or anything. Luckily, I guessed and got it right. You ought not to have to fix anything - that should be the landlords/agencies domain - but in an emergency it'll help to know how to handle things when they go wrong. Which hopefully, they never will, right?

Oh, and get a torch. Leave it somewhere you can get to easily in the dark.

In Britspeak, torch = flashlight.

You don't really want to keep a bunch of tar-soaked rags on a stick in the house. wink

Learn to cook a meal. Just one will do for a start.

Get one good saucepan, not 6 rubbish saucepans.

Buy one good knife. Learn how to sharpen it and keep it sharp. Stab any fucker who uses it without asking you.

Get a load of random storage tins. Keep everything in tins and bottles. This cuts down the amount of stuff for bugs to eat.
