lately i've been seeing people diss cilantro on the site.... and it just NOW fucking dawned on me, that when i was eating at big bowl it was the fucking CILANTRO that tasted like soap!

i was sitting at big bowl with userlame, mya, ophelia, and sunburntkamel... and i said to them i said.. "what does cilantro taste like?" and none of them knew. and i was gonna say "something tastes like SOAP in this big ass bowl of noodles." but i didn't... i just kept on eating it. BLARG! i thought maybe i was imagining the soapy taste.

i was sitting there thinking hmm.... i remember seeing in olivia's profile that cilantro makes her sad...

... but i didn't know if it actually WAS the cilantro... i didn't want to go pointing my finger blaming the cilantro.

and now i just read this thread.... and it's just all fucking clear to me now. and i just double checked what i ate:

PAD THAI... thin, flat rice noodles tossed with bean sprouts, eggs, Thai basil, crushed peanuts, cilantro and a tangy, sweet citrus sauce with a mild kick ... our most popular noodle dish

i fucking hate cilantro.

FUCK YOU CILANTRO!

I've been preaching an anti-cilantro rant for over ten years now. Everyone looks at me like I'm so uncultured for it. You should see the yahoos who gawk at me when I make a no cilatro request at the yuppie, fusion burrito places. Their collective jaws hit the floor. Serves me right for going to these places, but sometimes I'm on the wrong side of town.

People seem to love it or hate it. I'm a HUGE fan of it, but I also think salted licorice tastes good so don't trust me.

ok my mom says it taste slike soap too. People at my work loathe it, we serve it on a lot of dishes. I often nibble the stems, and I likes it in a salad, but today I went to eat a stem and it was darn right the nastiest green thing i had ever encountered, in my mouth of course, which was then spit right out. Fancy today being the cilantro thread.

So in my conclusion:

CILAMTRO! YOURE OKAY WITH ME (just okay)

The seeds are called coriander, the plant is called coriander, but the leaves are cilantro. That's just the way it is. surreal

And I remember reading somewhere that there's actually a gene that determines whether someone thinks cilantro tastes like cilantro (which is a unique and entirely undescribable flavor) or if they taste like soap. Basically, if you think cilantro tastes like soap it's because you were born that way, cursed never to know the goodness that is cilantro.

I pity you, really... frown frown frown
