I got a chance to talk with quite a few bands at the CMJ Music Marathon recently. Those interviews of course will be appearing here on SuicideGirls exclusively over the next few weeks.
The lucky first band I got to talk with is Epitaph RecordsÂ’ Scatter the Ashes which consists of Daryl Stamps on vocals, guitarist James Robert Farmer, basisst Matt McCord and drummer Dillon Napier. Stamps and I spoke in-between CMJ shows about the band, farts and their album Devout/The Modern Hymn.
I went to my first big punk show (NOFX, Teen Idols, Less than Jake) with matt the bass player, and way back in the day darryl used to be into nothing but wutang and he would do Tags (graffitii) in my sketch book. I don't know too much about the rest of the band but everyone else I know seems too. I just wanna say how amazing it is that two of the nicest guys I ever knew in high school somehow turned that shitty band (admit it guys, you were pretty bad back in the wyan the wock stah days) into something so good. I don't think you just got signed or got lucky, bc I genuinely love the songs off the album I have heard so far, I remember when Matt showed me the premix down cut of the album in the parking lot of one of our shows (they were playing at a club three buildings down... odd) and I was blown away/ I especially love the video as well. You assholes make me proud, the only good thiong to come out of smyrna thats for damn sure, other than maybe some really kind hydro...
Weird. I was on a shoot with them a couple months ago--I was the stills photog on their Caesura video and I have to say yes, they really are nice guys. Friendly, courteous, and hell, they like joy division! I'm excited to hear about them in the months since.
