I'm not a Sox fan, but as a loyalist of the losing party, I have to admit it was very
touching.

nike is always on the bleeding edge of amazing commercials

remember that super bowl ad, where it was a montage of all sorts of different athletic activities, but it was all cut together in a way that insinuated continuity? the kid running to base became the distance runner who became the hockey player, etc. etc? or that ad where all the different athletes are playing different sports?

Yes I do-it was like most of their adverts, brilliant and memorable. As native New Yorker who grew up in Beaverton, OR(Nike's world headquarters), I'm really proud
of the daring and inventive ways they market themselves. I think over the past 5 years(or at least since Michael Jordan retired), their adverts have certainly become less star driven and emotionally appealing and for me that's nice to see.

Paying little children rock bottom wages, in S.E. Asia, well, that's quite another subject...

nike paying them 20 cents a day to live on table scraps is better than them making 0 cents a day and starving to death

Ok, I don't want to turn this into a CE thread, but you realize what a bullshit argument that is, don't you? Exploiting people is wrong, no matter what their alternative would be like. The only reason Nike is able to exploit them so much is because they have nothing, no voice and no power.

Reminds me of one of the reasons I'm glad at least a few of the old stadiums are still around, and havent been sold to corporations for advertising. Stuff like that irks me. Tearing down The Omni and replasing it with "Phillips Arena". Lame. The old ballparks and stadiums had memories, that are being replaced with nothing but massive billboards.

I'm not disputing the value of making a honest living for whatever the wage may be, but merely thought that the lovely sentiment in the ad is a remarkable contrast
to the less, shall we say, appealing elements of the corporation.

Here's a question: Now that The Red Sox have pretty much ended The Curse, what's the draw? What's the 'point' of the Boston Red Sox? My whole life I've known them as, sadly, losers. The whole aura and mystic of that team has been smashed by Ortiz and Damon. The whole reason for the team was to beat the Yankees, and whole reason to get behind them was to cheer them on to defeat next year. What's the point now? I'm serious. I'm not BoSox Baiting. I'm talking the sociological impact of this win.

Touching or not, let's not forget what the main purpose of commercials are, people- to sell you something. Hence the word, "commercial"- as in, "commerce". I'm not saying a commercial can't be touching, but let's not kid ourselves- they're taking advantage of all the fans out there so they can sell more stuff.

That's what commercials do.

dude. they said the same thing in that doc, 'the curse of the bambino' (which is where i am sort-of suspecting that you got it)

whatever. a world series victory is just better than no world series victory.

what you just said wouldn't have ever passed through the mind of any beaten-down sox fan. i just want them to win. i just want them to win.

Very clever, CD.
That was an awesome commercial. I wonder what it's like having to film that, or print all those &*^% the Curse 2004 t-shirts and shit, knowing that they might not get used.
