I watched that for the first time last night, when it was over it seemed as though i missed something....or is it suppose to end with her screaming on a merry-go-round with no realy significance of why. Should I be confused or not?

I thought it was pretty good, but obviously written by a 13 year old.

eh. not a big fan. I don't really like those "omg drugs are so bad for you look what they do to you" movies, along the lines of requiem for a dream, party monster, etc. not that I don't agree, it's just that I already know, and don't need to be told, and the movies give me the heebie jeebies and make me depressed because they have sad endings. the only exception to the rule would be Gia, but I would be happy turning the movie off right after the hottt angelina's boobies scene. tongue

i interpreted the end to mean that the girl ended up an addict. the merry-go-round represents the cycle of abuse and her scream a cry for help. of course, it's open to interpretation, unless the director reveals something in the commentary or something like that as to what it truly means.

i thought the movie was good. i'd be interested to hear other opinions on the ending.

You probably shouldn't start topics that give away the end of movies like that - at least put in a spoiler warning.

I didn't really like that movie, but I might have liked it if I saw it when I was thirteen or fourteen. I guess living in New York City there's the possibility of seeing worse things.

All i have to say is: KIDS was way better.

(coming from an editor)

That movie and Kids is one I wont touch. Ive seen them both and was digusted at both of them.

Kids ie since it was practicaly documented child pornography

Thirteen since I had a thirteen yearold sister practically going through the same thing as were thousands of kids across this country. It is harsh reality I will give it that.

But main reason is... well shit... its how I use to live my life. And anyone who watches those movies does infact feel a little sickened since they know they can relate.

Good films. Yes

Kids and Thirteen both sucked. Why do people feel the need to make movies that show how teens REALLY are. You can watch the news and see that.

I guess I'm split on how I feel about it. On one hand, everything those girls did was pretty much what my friends were up to, and I did everything else but the sex. So I wasn't shocked, I was really happy to see someone depicting what I know to be true of all 13 year old girls: they're being bombarded by their pituitary glands (which makes anyone bonkers), and being raised in this puritanical culture is really hard on kids these days. This is the *direct* result of being raised to watch commercials that sell shampoo with orgasms, among other things. Not that showering and orgasms don't go together, because they do, but Clairol doesn't exactly put a picture of a detachable shower head on their boxes...

But on the other hand, as a 30 year old it really scares me that children are sucking cock for a piercing.

Either way it spoke to me on a lot of levels, especially the fucked up way girls are raised to relate to eachother.

I should add that the relationship between the Mom (holly hunter) and her daughter was very real to what I've seen over the course of my life.

I had to watch it as part of an adolscence development class in grad school. That movie was pretty divisive. By the end of the lesson the class was divided into three camps: 1) the holy-crap-teenagers-don't-really-DO-this-sort-of-thing-do-they-? camp, 2) the what-a-crock-of-sensationalistic-claptrap camp, and 3) the I'm-never-having-a-daughter camp.

Camp #3 (of which I was a member) took the events in the film as representing a hyper-extreme take on (peer) girl-girl and girl-mom relations at that age. Reading some of the comments seems to confirm that. The "That was me at 13" or the "That was soo my mom and I" tell me that more than a few girls can relate to it.

Teenage girls are so mean. tongue

Seriously, how the hell are parents supposed to compete in this day and age when hyper-consumerism has met hyper-sexuality? Ain't no way I'M raising a daughter, now.
