people who don't tip or don't tip well should have to wear a sign that says "ASSWIPE" in huge, bold letters.

i have no bigger pet peeve than going out to dinner with friends and then having one or more of them try to argue that we either shouldn't tip or should give a small tip.

LISTEN: 20% is the standard. more for very good service, less only if they sucked.

I don't tip if it's bad service. I do always tip the pizza delivery person.

But on Sunday we went to the Olive Garden and we did not tip our waitress. She was horrible. The way I look at is this: If being a waitress is what you do for a living then you should be good at it. Simple as that. If I wanted to be treated badly or to be ignored I would just eat at home.

im guessing that the average bill is around 15-30 dollars. not being ready to change a 50 isnt good service at all (in my opinion).

yes, that's ok if she was horrible. but far too many people will only give 10% for good service, which is cheap and pathetic. in addition, sometimes poor service is not the waitstaff's fault, sometimes the kitchen is backed up, sometimes the chef fucks up, sometimes weird stuff happens. a diner should be aware of this, and not punish the waiter/waitress for it.

pizza delivery people are in danger of being robbed. it's well known that they are not allowed to carry more than $20 in change.

If I get really good service, not only do I tip very well, but I also like to email the place I went to. I have done that a few times and then recieved coupons in the mail. I know when I worked at a store and we got a customer compliment it made everyone's day. So it's the least I can do. And then sometimes I get something in return too. smile

The waitress we had was really bad. Seriously, she stood at the service station chatting with a friend while my husband and I sat there for like 10 minutes waiting for her to bring us more drinks. Then when we asked for boxes she just brought them to the table. Every other time we have gone there they have scraped our plates for us. She was just more interested in chatting with her friend than working.

why the hell should the diner have to figure out why the service is shitty? if the kitchen is fucking up, the waiter should explain the delay while bringing free drinks and whatever apps are available.

You're gonna drive me to drink, if only so my free-spending high-tipping ways can counteract all the cheap motherfuckers that frequent your establishment. wink

In the meantime, I always overtip food delivery folks whenever possible.

apparently not well known enough. besides, if youre going to get robbed anyway, what does an extra 20 hurt?

If I'm ordering pizza, I'm drinking, so I tip drunk. 50% sounds like a good idea after you've had a few. Unless its a dude, then its a strict 20%, but never any less.

And I know. I fall into the trap of tipping girls more, but darnit, I'm just going to spend the money on something frivolous like rent, so why not give it to a good cause.

I always tip the delivery person. I usually give about 5 bucks in tip.

Until last Sunday, I was a waitress for a little over a year, and I do agree that if your server is not all that great, you shouldn't have to tip. While it may not be their fault that it takes an hour for your food to come out, a good server will explain to you the delay or whatever problem there may be. Do take into consideration that many servers do not get paid minimum wage, and heavily rely on tips. That's why if I'm waiting on you, your glass is full, you have extra napkins, I make sure you're ok, and I do it with a smile on my face. What pisses me off is when you give good service and you still get nothing but a few nickles. I was a great waitress, but never made more than $20 a night. I even had people tell me how great I was and they still left 50 cents. I'm glad my days of waiting tables are over.

But damn people, there is really no excuse not to tip a delivery person. At least I can't think of a reason...

TIP YOUR PIZZA DELIVERY DRIVER! For God's sake. I'm standing out in the rain with your dog barking at me and your kids staring at me, your porch light isn't on, so it's dark, you haven't bothered to take the pizzas from me, so they are burning the fuck out of my hand, we DO keep those hot bags at 435 degrees you know, and there you are, in the garage because you can't find your wallet. And THEN you come back with a 50. No pizza driver can change a 50, fuckwad! So then you make me stand there in the dark and rain with your dog barking and your kids staring while you go seek out your checkbook upstairs in the bowels of the house somewhere.....and write me a check with a 12 cent tip on it. THANKS, DICK! Good thing I'm at the FARTHEST area we deliver...that way I can cool off on the LONG ASS DRIVE back to the shop.....THEN your neighbors can do a lot of the same...only they gave me 60 cents. Neener.

The thing is some people are fucking cheap! I always tip $3-$5 and my pizza dude only has to drive like 14 blocks. When your drunk it's always worth a good tip not to have to leave the house. smile

Generally, I never tip, only really started after I made a new friend... who used to work in the service industry.

So now, I tip a little more often.

Generally only for pizza, or going out, and yes, bartenders.
