so i'm a guy, a mans man, a if the bleeding stop in and hour i'll stich it up myself type of dude, and i've let my mop get pretty shaggy, and i'm digging it right now, it's got this naturly fethered look. expecpt snarlin and tangleing and drying out and shit, since i've started washing it twice in the shower to keep my mane soft, i figure it's time to switch to a seperate shampoo and condishiner VS sticking with a 2n1, so i'll lay it out

  • i work in a dirty ass factory, with alot of static electricaty
  • once it snows i'll be work 12-14 hours a day 7 days a week as a snowboard instructor
  • i'm a broke ass, i droped $600 this week alone on snowboard gear
  • my hair is not bleached or died, i just want to keep the natural radness of my do
  • did i mention my hair is soft, fuck i can't stop touching it, but it seems to dry out part way through the day

thanks ladies any advice will be aperiated

Static, wearing a beanie and Winter dryness all help to leave your hair brittle and somewhat stiff. Sometimes washing it too much can also lead to dryness.
The price of shampoo doesnt always have to matter. Just a get MOISTERIZING ones, especially Conditioner. And if youre hair is really think, and so forth Leave the conditioner on for like 5-15 minutes.

No1 revlon Outrageous, smells divine!

I could. They're not especially fun.

As for hair care, I think it's ok to cheap out on shampoo, but salon conditioner is a must for me. I just started using Redken All Soft conditioner and it's great. The most important thing to know about conditioner is that it really needs to be left on for at least five minutes if your hair is at all dry.

never use a 2 in 1...its garbage.
Secondly, like the ladies stated..best to buy a good conditioner.
And thirdly, grab some mayo and egg..mix em up...in a bowl of course..cover your head with mix,let stand for 10-15 minutes and then shampoo and rinse.
Will be slightly greasy but in the long run, it will be smooth and shiny.

Depends on what kind of hair you have.. But I sweared by Grandpa's Old Fashioned Pine Tar Soap. (when I had more than 1 cm of hair wink ). It's a bar, you just lather it in. It works on dandruff, too.
It is absolutely the best.
And cheap! smile

Edited to add that I never needed to use a conditioner with it, either.

Yeah, tell me about it.

It's just not a true "hey ladies" thread without some crude sexual question, usually about penis size, and a resulting train-wreck of a snark fest.

*shakes fist at thread for providing no such bemusement past placing the Beastie Boys song in my head*

Bumble and Bumble. Made with seaweed and mint. It's a bit pricey and you can only find it in high end salons...but it's brilliant and makes your hair smell oh-so-yummy.

I am in love with this stuff. I use it a couple times a week, and I use pantene's purity clarifying shampoo as well. it makes my hair so fucking soft, I just want to have sex with it.

You know you could have a product build up, my hairdresser says 2 in 1s are pretty bad for leaving behind lots of gunk. Said gunk attracts dirt which can dry your hair out more and means you have to wash it more often.

Can't help you with the which is best to buy thing as brand names are probably different over here but a clarifying/purifying type shampoo (as mentioned above) should do the trick. Moisturising conditioner afterwards and you'll be back to being 'rad' in no time wink

That word really makes me chuckle (sorry, weird uptight English thing) biggrin

I would try using a seperate shampoo and conditioner. Also, leave it in there for at least 3-4 minutes. Try not to wash it everyday if you can help it. I know you work in a factory but maybe on the weekends let it get grungy. (I perfer grungy hair anyway!)

Separate shampoo/conditioner is totally the way to go. If you're really worried about dryness, get the permed/coloured/damaged type of conditioner, it's the best thing for moisturizing your hair. I like Clairol Herbal Essences (although it does smell kind girly) and Pantine ProV myself. Both brands are reasonably priced at under $5 a pop. smile

for the love of god, stop washing your hair so damn much!!!

i wash mine once a month with shampoo. rinse it out every day and use a good conditioner on it. i like lanza be long products (i have really really long hair)... but for you since you prolly have shorter hair than me, i'd suggest some bed head moisture maniac. also... Coco is a stylist in the making... and i'm sure she knows much more about product than i do...

but stop washing your hair so much. seriously.

When you work in a factory you need to wash your hair that much. It will be fine if you use a good conditioner. Good conditioner is improved by leaving it on for several minutes at a time. Three or four times a month I'll leave it on for at least thirty minutes before rinsing.

Poppy Seed Oil Reviving Mask

All hair types can use a boost of this rich moisturizer with amino acids and Community Trade organic olive oil. Apply after rinsing shampoo, and leave on for three minutes, then rinse. Leaves hair tangle free and healthy looking.

Fucking love this.

My hair is not the early-90s-Seattleriffic-grunge-era mane it once was, but I still swear by washing your hair as infrequently as possible without being physically disgusting, and finding a conditioner that works for you. Also, every once in a while, if you're getting incredibly tangly, you might blast your hair with some Aussie Three Minute Miracle. (Use the 3MM sparingly, though. That stuff is so strong I can't imagine that prolonged use of it is good for you in the long run.)

Okay. Seriously this thread is sad. Here is my advice. Let me first say that i WORK IN A SALON and stuff you can buy in the store is crap. Go with Clara's idea of using professional products. (Clara we need to dish on the Redken, I've always wanted to try it.)

What you need, I think, is a moisturizing shampoo to cut out the dryness from the cold when you do the boarding and a clarifying conditioner because you are going to get build-up like crazy from working in the factory for that long and whatnot.

Having said that, Kenra makes a great Moisturizing and Clarifying shampoo and conditioner. I use Kenra (and Matrix and Kpak and all kinds of crap, but I have damn healthy hair because of it) and I love it. It's not too expensive but either way, worth the money. biggrin

Edited to add: As for the Aveda Academy, generally places like that won't sell product to the public, only to liscenced stylists. But, you never know.
