I watched that movie when I wasn't in the best of moods, and alone, and it depressed me for days. I was sobbing. I guess I would say it was a good movie, but I don't know that I would watch it again, and especially not alone...

it was ok, parts were ridiculous. i prefer "gerry." (another van sant film which is referenced in the computer game they play in elephant.)

I was extremely disappointed. Two of my favorite critics gave it four stars but I thought it was almost condescending.

Parts were very effective (the ending was incredibly effective), but Van Sant has said it's intended as a "thought machine" - a semi-objective portrayal of a school shooting from which people can draw their own conclusions. I didn't think it was at all - I found it hard to get away from Van Sant's view of the events. I was never unaware that I was watching actors and staged situations, which was sort of the idea in the first place. Because of the sore subject matter, his failure to do what he was trying to do makes the film disingenuous; if I was the parent of a Columbine victim, Van Sant's mock what-is-it-all-about approach would make me ill.

I watched it awhile ago and had been awaiting it's release after hearing tons of good things.

It was a pretty solid film, but nothing that I felt broke new ground or anything, worth watching, but definatly not the four star must see some critics make it sound like.

Well, I'm downloa-... er, 'renting' it anyhow. Just because the original screenplay (which Van Sant mostly scrapped) was written by one of my favorite authors, JT Leroy.

Yes, I own it. One of my favourite movies. Too many great scenes. My favoutite scene is when Alex is playing 'Eenie-Meanie-Minie-Moe' at the end, while creepy, it's also an effective and funny way of making a choice.

Yeah, I saw it...I wasn't really into it...It is basically the columbine shooting...even the floor plan of the school is similar. The dialogue is relatively the same as well...ANd at the end, they have the "Any events and characters..." disclaimer at the end...

The reason the film received acclaim was because, with the exception of the two gun men, the principal or assistant principal or whatever and a coupole other characters, all the people in the film are students or staff at that school...at least that's how I understand it.

The eenie meenie minie moe is a from a direct eye-witness account of the Columbine shooting, and was inspired (well, thought to be anyway) by the film "Natural Born Killers" which by the way, is an incredible film I would recomend to everybody but my close family members (Mostly because I don't want them to know how fucked up I am for liking that movie)

I also don't understand why it was neccesary to include the shower scene...it just seems to me fuel for Focus on the family and the like, not an honest portrayal of the characters...especially since it occurs near the end as opposed to the middle, where it would carry less weight on the character development.

it was an alright movie, not Van Sant's Best, and certainly worth seeing, but I wouldn't watch it again.

It was a cool movie. I thought that the blond haired guy on the box was a girl before I saw it.
